|
|
This is really just an excuse to share my joy at having new side mirrors - and everybody loves bus photos - but I suppose it counts as a product review if I give my opinion, which is:
I got the "cheaper" ones ($29) since the German ones are out of stock. But they are fine. Maybe they will rust in a year. I don't know! But it doesn't seem like it. We've all seem that super crappy chrome stuff around (oil filler necks, pulleys, etc), and this doesn't seem like that. They seem very much like the originals. Mostly I am happy to have mirrors at all. Hooray for me!!
Cheaper ones (left side):

So nice to see you back there!

Thanks for posting this. I've been thinking about replacing my mirrors, because the right side refuses to stay in place and I can't ever use it.
If these hold up, I'll consider grabbing a pair for next summer. |

you can have a glass shop put new mirrors in the frames for like twenty bucks. _________________ 88 Van WBX, A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T - 2012 Touareg TDI Sport |

Well there you go... that's why I post every random thing, I guess. While I had thought of attempting to make my own glass replacement (turned out to be way too much trouble), I had never thought of just having a glass shop do it. Good idea.
Germansupply inserts for $20? Another good idea.
Cip1? Wow, those are cheap! The ad is 10% product information and 90% disclaimer that says "be forewarned... this product truly sucks!" - funny.
Sheep? Indeed. |

Riomx take a look at my mirrors the next time you see me. You can see what the BD mirrors look like after 4 or 5 years. Not bad. Not great. |

ccpalmer, I'll take the buck. My left and right side replacements are at four years and looking just fine. Do I get a dollar per year? |

Actually, after some careful thinking, I'm planning to *GASP* order Brasilian mirrors instead! |

I may have to order a set of these when I have the funds. It would be nice to have two mirrors instead of the one I have with broken glass. _________________ Current VWs

Anyone know how to make the replacement mirrored glass you can get from a glass shop last? It has been my experience the backing will fail in a few years. Maybe a coat of paint over the back or smear on a layer of silicone. I have paid between $5 and $15 for replacement glass, but after 5 years it all looks bad. |

I got mine earlier this year from Wolfsburg West. $29 each, and stainless steel. Won't be rusting anytime soon. Website says out of stock right now, but maybe a call would prove otherwise. Quality is exceptional. Worth waiting for if necessary.

I think I should upload a picture of how good they look like.
They say they are cheap, but they are the best looking and best quality ones I bought. Went through like 3 mirrors. |

I'm VERY happy with the quality. I went looking for stainless steel and couldn't believe their price. Just don't order with a check (another story ). Peace! _________________
