OK
A week after braking my hand I started again to work on the car today.
I have to say it was kind of slow but I did mock up and tack weld the front bumper.

Are you only using the one tie in point on either side for the front bumper? I would add a second to either side and possibly even beef up the size tubing. Keep it up. |

Hi Done and Garje,
Incredible! 4 months ago, we were doing mouth to mouth to a (Eagle talon) skeleton at Boston with Garje and today, your Murciélago killer is about to relive! I am really impressed by the job you have done, Doctor Frankenstein.
I'll be back next year to drive this smiling frog. Just one request, I would like to drive it before Garje because he is going to spray the seat with a foul-smelling liquid after his first acceleration and turn.
A four-wheel independent suspension, a good load distribution, four-wheel drive and a terrific power-weight ratio without the inertia of a diplodocus... You have to put a sticker on the back "I have also a Veyron but today I am late"

Hi !
Done just told me that the "murcielago killer" will be on the road on January 2011 !
Don't worry Memer ... I won't be afraid with the terrific power of Done's Buggy !!!
I can't wait any longer to see the first video of the Buggy in the Snow in February !!!
Just a question ... why do you weld such a big Bull Bars on the front ??? |

I bought a pair of 6" lights and worked on putting them on.
After cutting, grinding, and welding.
Finished look:

When I built my street legal rail buggie here in Florida several years ago, I checked the Law books first. It stated that driving lights had to be, (center to center) no lower than 12 inches from the ground and no closer than 24 inches apart.
If you remember the old 1967 Shelby Mustangs, the early models had their driving lights very close together. Mid year, Shelby moved them apart because they were too bright for oncoming traffic and they also got too hot.
I would call your local DOT and find out what your requirements are before you go much farther and have to change things after it's finished.
Also, your project is looking AWESOME !!!

I did not like the look of the ATV bumper with its open ends.
So I decided to cut and weld new ends to it so its now a closed design.
Ok it is gonna be clearer with pictures:
After finishing both side I put the lights back on.
I am started to really like the cartoon look with the oversized KC covers... _________________ New ideas do not scare me, old ones do.

This is a sneak peek of what I am working on for the suspension.
The look of the buggy is definitely off road but I will use it 99.9% on paved street.
That is why I decided to go with road race shocks:
Left is the EO strut and right is the same cut and sand blasted almost ready for the Koni insert. _________________ New ideas do not scare me, old ones do.

Ok I have been off for two weeks but I come back with a lot of pictures.
I am not gonna tell you what it is just yet.
First taking some measurements.
Then I took this cut off bumper tube.
Put it on the tube notcher.
Nice fish-mouth.
Spot welded.
Any idea?
Now I took some tubes bolt and a caster wheel.
Start welding.
1/2 " square ratchet adapter.
Almost finished.
Here you go: spare tire holder.
And...
Lug nut wrench. _________________ New ideas do not scare me, old ones do.

I have always wondered about all the different approaches people take to building these types of projects, but have never really asked. Maybe its just me who wonders. I guess my question is...
Why do people focus on such little detail things right in the middle of a build? I mean I would be working on any electronics, finished bodywork, cooling system design, dash design, headlights, etc before I would be building little add ons like off road lights and lug wrenches. Its all cool and everything but aren't those the things you can design & build after you have a running car?
Certainly things need to be done in order, and I understand that, but don't these type of things just delay the build. And based on some years of watching many projects come and go, thats the death of any build. |
