I'm sure he means synchro on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th only. Pre-Oct '52 would be non-synchro, or "crash-box". _________________ "Criticism comes easier than Craftsmanship"

as far as i know, the gearing is the same for all splitcase synchromesh transmissions, beetle and bus. there were some minor changes to 4th gear later on, but i don't think the ratio changes significantly. there weren't too many gear options for splitcase. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

There were some slight modification of the ratios of the splitcase synchromesh transmission during the years. There exist two ratios for 3rd, three ratios for fourth and two different ratios for the final drive. I have the following list noted. Unfortunately it seems like some ratios where using intermittent so you cant trust it completely
year(number) | first | second | third | top | rp | total on top
10.52 - 8.53(1-0509793) | 3,6 | 1,88 | 1,217 | 0,786 | 4,375 | 3,44
8.53 - 12.53 (1-0575414) | 3,6 | 1,88 | 1,217 | 0,786 | 4,375 | 3,44
12.53 - 5.56 (1193482) | 3,6 | 1,88 | 1,227 | 0,815 | 4,375 | 3,56
5.56 - 11.57 (1726006) | 3,6 | 1,88 | 1,227 | 0,815 | 4,429 | 3,61
11.57 - 8.60 (3192506) | 3,6 | 1,88 | 1,217 | 0,821 | 4,429 | 3,64 _________________ Let's face it, comedy's a dead art form. Tragedy, now that's funny. |
