Hi everyone. Time for new tires on my 82 westy but with my 15" Audi Quattro rims I have limited choices. Looks like either the Micheline Agilis 205/65 (expensive) or two choices from Khumo: Eurowin 205/65 or 195/70.
Anyone had any experience with these tires? My mechanic says the 205/65 are actually too wide for my rims but the guy at the tire shop says there shouldn't be any problems. _________________ 89 Syncro GL Westfalia 2.1 WBX/WBXaustSS

Well I run 215/65/15 Michelins. They are a pretty tight tolerance in the rear on my 79 baywindow, like 1/4". GoWesty alloys.
The secret is the offset on the rims. I ended up having the lip of the rear quarter panel shaved down 1/4" to give me a total of 1/2". Never has been any rubbing and I guess I am getting used to it now.
The other thing you are trying to keep it the diameter of the original tires. My bus came with 185/about 82/14 from the factory which is about 25.7" of diameter. I am now about 26".
This will give you an idea

Thanks for the info Randy. I guess not many people are running 15" rims but I think I'll go with the Michelin tires because I KNOW they'll be good. With the Khumos I think I'd be taking a chance...I just wish the Michelins weren't so much $$$$! |
I have Continental "Vanco 8" tires on my Eurovan camper's 15" rims (195-70-15). They are the only "C" load rated sidewall tire in that size from Contenental, and they also come in 215-70-15. I paid about $100 each installed. The Michelins are too expensive and wear too fast, and the Khumos seemed to be too higiway truck-tread looking and I feared that they'd ride rough. |
