|
|
in my 58, i have a late 60's transaxle installed. i do not have the engine in there now and as i look at it... there is like 3" of space between the outer wheel well and the top of the tire. that seems like a lot of space! i know the engine should bring it down some but im wondering how much. after reviewing photos of busses with engines in them, it looks like, the outer body/wheel well should be about 2-3" below the top of the tire. is my scenario due to the year of tranny vs. the year of bus? i have 14" wheels on there if that helps. i know this isn't a huge concern of mine... more of a curiosity factor and once i install the engine will it bring it down to a stock height? that's what i'm looking for. thanks. |

If you have a "big nut" tranny in there, it should not make the bus sit higher.
The 14" tires and wheels are probably your problem. What size tires?
If the sidewalls are too short, more wheel well will show
Are your wheel wells cut out? Have they been repaired incorrectly?
Have you or anyone else messed with the spring plates? This should be the only thing affecting the height.
Pics?...and without wheels to see where your spring plates sit when the bus is on jack stands |

Ride height looks OK going by the spring plate stops but those wheel wells are hhhmmmmmmmm.... lets say interesting....... _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Yes, the spring plate/torsion bar relationship can be adjusted for proper ride height, but your problem is with the wheel wells. They have been hacked. Yeehaw! _________________ nothing |

that's not what i wanted to hear but i guess my welder will go further than previously thought, lol! thanks for the feedback.
so to get this right, (measuring from the inside top to bottom of the wheel well) how many inches of wheel well should be on a stock bus?
thanks |
