My RHD has the same ID information, with the MK in front of the body number. I just had it bead blasted and it is definitely a RHD on a #'s matching RHD pan. It came from Australia originally as well.

sorry to bring up an old thread but i recently bought an australian 57 which has the same id plates as the one pictured above , it also has the MKA before the body number which i understand means it`s an aussie built ckd car. so why does it also have the made in western germany plate ?
my car is painted horizon blue with a dark blue vinyl interior which i understand is correct for a german built car , i thought the aussie built cars used different paint schemes and that the interiors were different too as they were sourced locally.
so did some of the MKA cars come with german paint and interior schemes

incidently this is an old pic of my car which looks identical to the one pictured above ! must check my body number and see if it is in fact the same car Very Happy

MKA stands for Martin, Knight and Associates, they were the company in Australia who put together the CKD packages for VW. The kits were made in Western Germany however were assembled, painted and finished here in Australia

Mine is body number mka 25050 pretty close to the tag above possibly built same day. I've been a long time admirer of the blue one above and i think mine was resprayed the same colour, however the og paint definately seems to be horizon blue and the dark blue interior came in horizon blue cars. So were some of the mka cars assembled with german interiors and german paint schemes ? Also the headliner in mine is a weird woolen towel like material which i've seen in some 60's beetles in australia was this a factory option over there or is it likely it was replaced at some later date ?
