AL's headers Makes the Scat, CB Performance, AND Kymco headers, amongs other shop (that i wont mention) that claim that they make them in house.

Mine came from CB.

Maybe , just a thought, but what size engine did you try to put this 1 3/8 header on? Thats a small header, and if fitted onto a wide stroker engine, i can see how it would be short, since its probably not supposed to extend to the sides that far. Maybe your engine is wide?

69mm stroke. 1641 but 100% aftermarket. Hip Roof Case, scat heads, and so on. Yes it could be wider BUT, in test fitting and clamping to a straight surface for checking, I found that #4,#1,#2 fit just fine. #3 headed off into the wild blue yonder. I don't think it was a width issue or wider engine problem. The collector, when header finally could bolt on, headed drastically to the right. It may have been purposely that way because the only effect would be the muffler tucks under the car more. My problem with that was , what if I wanted run a stinger on Saturday night. The exhaust would have blown the skirts up on the pedestrians walking on the sidewalk.

volksguy wrote:
Just out of curiosity, how come you went from 1 3/4" all the way down to 1 3/8" ? Thats a huge difference.

I got the (A1) 1-3/4 because it looked so damn good and was labeled as "lowdown" designed to clear rear apron. It was (according to the samba pro's) way too big for a small 1641. Also HotVWs article on HP said the CB 1-3/8 merged added a small amount of magic to the small engine they tested. I read the article and saw AL's logo but my brain read A1. I honestly thought I was buying A1.

volksguy wrote:
Also, the dents on the muffler, doesnt that end up under the apron/fender where it wont be seen?
If the muffler was to have been welded fliped around, you would have that ugly seam where the muffler shell is joined together, and personally, i think that seam would look ugly showing out the rear of the car.

Your right, body does cover it and the seam has to be hidden to look good. Muffler is fine the way it is. I might also make an adapter flange spacer to mount other brands of mufflers in the future.

Final word, AL's is great. I just think I got a reject or a repaired one or maybe just a fluke.

I think the baja collector with the down turn would of looked better, but it wont unbolt to run a stinger.he should probably give that option for the street headers that wont use a stinger. cleaner looking and no gasket.

Just an update. The header is now all sanded down and ready for coating. I go to the coaters in the morning with a truck load of other goodies. I will show you guys how it turns out.

not a abja header, but just a baja style collector with the ubend to go to the mufflerbuilt on to the collector, it's much cleaner looking then a pair of welded on flanges, and would flow better.

Lowdown is the one that fits under the apron. Be carefull of that promise with a merged, all cars are a bit different. Motor mounts can even affect it.
Heres the 1-3/4 Ceramic A1 I just took off. Come to the Farmington bash and get it dirt cheap. For now I'm having to stick to my modified AL's 1-3/8.

I would have bought this at the Farmington show had it NOT been bashed-in heavily, for clearance on the top And bottom of the collector. Before you posted this pic, you should have removed the yellow rag that is coving up the dents in it. Shocked

When I sold it for $100.00, I told the guy that they were strategic adjustment impressions.

Looks sweet! I'm jealous of your sunshine though (it's a few degrees above freezing, cloudy and damp here in Vancouver).
