So I am pulling apart my new (to me) 1964 Notch before I head back overseas, in an effort to stop it from rotting in place. The car was/is a fairly solid So Cal car so there are some problems but nothing like what I have seen here on the forums. As I pull it apart I am finding things that are expected, unexpected, and just plain scary.
The Expected:
Unexpected:
Rear Window Lip
The Scary:
C-Pillars (Pop Out Mounts)
So I know what to do about the expected, have an idea about the unexpected, but have no clue what to do about the C-Pillars. I have a replacement for the right one; just not sure how to go about it.
The C-Pillar is really the worst of the car. So other than that it is a solid car all around. _________________ "All Glory Comes From Daring To Begin" William Shakespeare |

You probably already know that new replacement panels are not made for our T3's, so your options are basically few:
-NOS pieces on evil-bay or other online ads
-used pieces off a donor car
-fabricate your own pieces _________________ 1972 SquareBack.....recycled back to life......

It doesn't look that bad. I've done all of those areas at 1 time or another. In fact your window lip looks better than mine did, as it was completely gone across the bottom of the rear window. In the same car (my 65 Sunroof Notch), the rear "C" pillars were worse than yours too. I think I have some pics of them somewhere around here (probably in the photo album). Is your car a sunroof car? Just asking, because they seem to go there more often on those cars. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

What I was dealing with:
Cut it all out and welded in new metal. |

Thanks Bob & Shaun. I have seen what you two have done with Krunchy & Shauns Notch. Actually seeing what you have done inspires me that it can be done.
Not sure what to do about the C-Pillars. I have donor metal for the right side. Thinking I am going to split the metal at the seams of the window lips, drill the spot welds on the seat belt mount and weld (have it welded)that piece in. I figure the less I have to cut the structure up the stroger it stays. _________________ "All Glory Comes From Daring To Begin" William Shakespeare |

If you look at the pics of the rear posts on my t-34 (build thread is in this forum), you'll see I just cut the rusty stuff out, and welded fresh metal in. Was pretty easy to do. I only really cut them as much as needed, and no more on the sides. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
