Hi
Picked up a set of seat belts from a 88 Jetta to install in the rear of my Doka. There is a captive nut in the c-piller for one attachment point. The question is were are the other two?? and if they are not there why did they put the one and not three???
If they are not there has any one installed 3pts in the rear, if so could you share some photos.
Thanks

The doka rear 3 point seat belts are specific to the trucks due to the foot that is bent into the bracket for the attachements. It is bolted to the seat rail down by the base. Mine are stock and were delivered with the truck from factory- nothing special.
Good luck |

Bought my three point seat belts from the dealer while living in Germany. Mine look just like syncrodoka's.
I want to install head rests, just haven't had the time to sit down and figure it out. _________________ And then there were two...downsized to 83 Doka &

Thanks Syncrodoka
Thats why I couldn't find the third one, they didn't use three only two
Looks like a pretty simple mod that can be perform with a bench vice
If that won't do it our welding shop will
thanks

Make sure that the retractor base was installed vertical from the donor car like mine pictured. If the donor was installed at a angle of flat they won't work. The inertia wheel will not work correctly if the pendulum is sitting at a different angle than designed for. The result would be a seat belt that cannot be spooled out and/or will not lock up in case of collision.
Good luck. |

Definitely something to look for, but the belts may not be dual sensitive (not sure what Jettas used and it may be different if they are the front or rear belts). If they are only web sensitive you can mount them any which way.
Just try and spool them out in different positions, if it works at multiple angles (or at least at the angle you intend to mount them) you are golden. |

I've installed 3 rear headrests in mine. For each headrest, I drilled two holes down through the cross member at the back of the cab to take the posts. Cut some plastic tubing that the posts drop into to hold them from dropping all the way down, and secured them from coming out with a couple cotter pins through the post at the bottom. (hose clamps would be easier though)
Each post had to have two minor bends made so that the headrest isn't angled too far forward or conversely pressing on the rear window. (The plastic tubing that the posts sit in has to be oversized a bit to accept the bends)
To finish them off, I cut some foam tubing to length which pads the posts a bit.
Some pictures here, just scroll down:

A lot of them came with only lap belts, no shoulder belts.
CentralSyncro, that is exactly what I want to do...now I just hate the thought of drilling the holes.

They should be. That is the way all of mine function. |

SyncroDoka - in your post from Wed Dec 01, 2010 1:40 pm you included a couple of photos that are not 'working' any more. Any chance you could repost them.
I recently bought a 1989 Doka (originally from Sweden) and it has no belts in the back at all. I hope to install 2 shoulder belts and a lap belt for the middle position.
Thanks!

Has anyone ever tried to add a three point seat belt for the middle position? |

Thanks for the photos syncrodoka and bman!
Now I can see exactly what is needed and how they mount.
syncrodoka - my new (to me) doka is the same color as yours. Just curious what modifications you have done to the drive train in yours. _________________ 1991 Syncro Westfalia - Bostig Zetec

I put in syncro.org springs and OME shocks but I wouldn't do it the same if i had to do it again. The springs sagged and i have blown a full set of shocks in a short amount of time. I liked the ride of the original springs and i would try the boge shocks with them for general use.
The biggest return on the $ was going through and replacing ball joints, bearings, radius rod bushings, trailing arm bushings and swapping the steering rack bushings with the poly version. The vans drive really well when everything is as it should be.
Have fun. |
