Vw Dropbox LLC. I searched this site for feedback on this business but didn't see any. It should have been a red flag, but being such an idiot, I thought to be the first one...
Sent them a few emails back in October. He said he does a lot of business and could take care the beam for me. He said he goes above and beyond to make every customer happy. I placed the order on Nov 1st, I was told to pay via paypal ($755) for a 5" narrow beam, complete with torsion leaves, arms, everything except spindles and brakes as I was getting a CB set. I was told to paypal as a "gift" to him so he could avoid paying the fees... that should have been another red flag. I paypal'ed him $300 on the 1st of November. In his email he told me the beam would have been ready on the 5th. On the 4th he emailed me and said he was behind and needed more time. Beam now would be complete on the 12th. On the 11th I paypal'ed him the rest, $455. On the 12th I get this email saying they just finished fabrication, they outsource parts to 3 different places, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico... and the parts were on their way to the powder coater. I called, spoke to him and his response was "we have your address, we will grayhound them to you when we get them" That was on the 12th. Today, a day before Thanksgiving, instead of me having a good time with my kids and enjoying the day, I am here typing, pissed, because for one more time I assumed that people were honest and had a back bone... At no point since the 12th I had any contact with him or anyone from this company. I called again today, I emailed, and got a text from his cell saying they are out of town until Monday... When I asked about when I would get my parts, his response was I am not sure what the problem is, we are out of town till Monday. I called paypal. The fact that I paid him as a gift, so he could avoid paying fees, screws me because I can not start a claim now. Was told to go to my bank. Went to my bank and was told my bank would have to file a claim against paypal. At that point I would have to close my account, open up a new one, change my direct deposit with my employer, set up all my bill pay again from the beginning, and do not use paypal for one full year. I called paypal. Told them all the above. They said they would decline the claim, as I sent the money as a gift. I was more than welcome to start it though...
This is where I am as of today. I have waited for 3 weeks. There is no physical address, no web site, just a cell phone number and a fax number on their ads here. No communication, no where in their ads it says that they outsource the powder-coating. I even asked to get the beam raw, so I wouldn't have to go through this, once I found out what was really going on, but he said no. I have no idea as to when and how, or even if I am going to get the parts. I wanted to save a buck, I read his ad and fell for it. The fact that they were in CA, made me think I could get the parts sooner. 25 days and counting... I called the BBB but they needed a physical address too, with out it they wouldn't start a claim. This is for your information. You might have had better luck with him in the past, according to him he does a lot of business here, I haven't been able to find any information. Happy Thanksgiving to all _________________ 1956 Buick Century Coupe

No call from him today. I sent him an email telling him I want a full refund. Nothing. I filled a complain with this outfit: www.IC3.gov I also called the IRS and told them the whole story. I was told to fill Form 3949A I did, to the best I could and mailed it today. If any of you out there have any info on this guy, other than his cell number, please let the MOD know and he will pass it to me. He is close to the Whittier area, at least thats what he told me when I asked him. I am going to call the Whittier PD tomorrow and see what they have to say. _________________ 1956 Buick Century Coupe

Still no contact from him. I called the Whittier PD and filled a claim. I am also going through the small claims court at this time. Thief... that's what you are. But then again you already know it. _________________ 1956 Buick Century Coupe

You are a liar. Your initial quote did include shipping. The second quote also include shipping. This is to refresh you memory:

What would it cost to ad spring leafs and tie rods?
Thanks
SZ
It's an additional $120 for leaf springs and brand new complete tie rods
with ends. Leaf springs come cut down and installed. Tie rods come trimmed
to the proper length and re-tapped. Let me know if you want to get some
thing started. I can have a beam to your door step in a week.

Let's do it... Send me a total, the car is a 66 ghia. Previous owner had the 0" offset wide 5 discs installed, which do not accept dropped spindles. I do want to keep the brake set up and after talking and reading about it, I decided on a 5" narrow adjustable beam. Plan to keep the chrommies on for now until I get some randars. Tire up front will be 135 rear 165. What do you think? I am on my way to work, will check email later tonight. I an in Fresno, 93730.
Thanks again,
Stavro
I’ll send you a PayPal invoice right now. Shipping to Fresno is cheap, $30.45. I’ll send you an invoice right now through PayPal for $445.45 ($295 + $120 + $30.45)
As for your Wide 5 disc brakes, I’ve seen them used with drop spindles before. It takes some modification to the caliper bracket, but it can be done, so don’t loose hope there. A 5” beam will look good on your Ghia, you’ll like it. It’s a good width if you by aftermarket wheels later too.

No problem. I’ve got a stack of beams that go to the powder coater this Friday; I won’t have them back until Monday morning. Anytime you’re ready.
Thanks

I am... I thought I had a guy buying my car, things fell through... I will get it, just don't know when... I apologize, I should have emailed you when I was ready...
Stavros
Robert,
I really apologize as I should have waited before I asked about the beam... My buyer backed out, but I was able to find another one. Car is sold. I took some pictures of the front set up of my 66 ghia. Body is off the pan, and working on the chassis first. I want to keep the wide 5 set up, as I am planning on getting sprintstars. On the 5" narrow beam with leafs (my original set up): What is your opinion on dropped spindles? Do I need them, is the ride going to be significantly different if I had an adjustable beam and no dropped spindles? I know that the current brake set up that I have will not work with the dropped spindles, but I was thinking I might be able to sell it and start from scratch. I never had a chance to ride in a car with either set up, so I am not sure if they are required or not. I am not planning on using sticky rubber up front, just 145/65/15. Let me know what you think. This is what it is on the car now:
Got it, thanks! What would it cost to have a beam spindle to spindle shipped?

I would do a 5 inch beam. you'll be thankful that you did. it's not about the tire size as much as it is about the wheel backspacing. we can include tie rods with ends for 50 dollars additional. we have them in stock as well.

Are the spindles you using forged or cast? It seems that most disc brake kits come with spindles. Do you know of anyone that has a kit that does not include spindles? Or should I skip the spindles from you and get them later with the brake kit? Who makes the spindles you are installing?

This is a great disc brake kit. You can only get those spindles in kit form. They are different then the standard disc brake drop spindles.
The only spindles we use are from century distributors. One piece forged spindles, the best you can buy. We can build you a beam without the spindles, it will save you 140 dollars, thats our cost.

Just sent you a $300 deposit. Will transfer the rest Wed morning. I like your spindles, I have read good things about them, what discs and calipers would you use though? I will send you $755 and if we can find some brake kit that would work with your spindles, we'll figure something out. I just want to do things once... I am open to suggestions.
Thanks again for all your help,
Stavros

Your deposit has been received, thank you. The bolt pattern choices for
you the forged spindles are 5x130mm (Porsche), 4x130mm (OEM VW 68-79),
5x100mm (most compact sedans), 4x100mm (most compact sedans), 5x4.75"
(Chevy), 5x4.5 (Ford)"
These are the most common, but not the only patterns. 5x130mm porsche is
the most popular and there are so many good looking wheels in availible in
that pattern.
I need you to send me the pictures of your current suspension again. I
recall that its a BallJoint beam with a wide-5 disc brake kit on stock
spindles. I can't find the email at the momment.

Here is what I have. It seems that wide 5 disc pattern is more expensive that Porsche 5x130. And 5x130 wheels at $165 more expensive than 5x205 sprintstars at $90 a piece... Plus the 205 will keep my rear drums for now. I think I will stay with the wide 5 and sprintstars unless there will be fitment issues... Fuchs are nice I have to admit...

I am going to order this kit:
http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1437
I will stay with the original plan and keep it simple as most of the money will go towards the body work, blasting, rust repair and paint. With this set up at least I can use my wheels and tires and change them later. At the bottom of the description it says the hub uses 12 mm threads for 69 and later tie rod ends. I will be home late tonight, will transfer the rest of the money tomorrow/
I am sorry for the back and forth, this is all new to me, I am learning as I go. The guy that sold me the car told me it was restored, come to find out there is at least 25 lbs of cheap bond all over the car with the bottom 5 inches needing replacement all around. That's why I try to keep it simple...

Thats a quality disc brake kit. CB Performance makes top of the line parts. We're about 2 weeks out on beams right now. It's looking like I can deliver on the saturday the13th. Let me know if this works for you. We've had a lot of orders come in on the last few days.
Robert
Then I sent you two payments, one for $300 and and for $455. That was what you asked. That amount included shipping. YOU TOLD ME SO in your email. Then you sent me an email telling me the rest:
We received your payment for the beam, thank you. The fabrication will be done by this afternoon, and then it's off to the powder coater. They usually take several days to get it done, so I won't have it for delivery tomorrow.

For you to have the balls and say that the beam has been complete and sitting at your place and me not giving a rat's ass is simply not true... Your quote did include shipping and is there for everyone to see it. I did nothing wrong. I sent you what you asked and you on the other hand did not deliver your promise. Last time I talked to you, on Nov 15th, you told me you wouldn't install the arms because the box would have to be really big and you would leave them for me to install... remember that? You told me also that there would be no problem to ship it to Fresno, as you do that all the time, remember that too? I have the phone records on my cell phone, I called you three times and all I got was "This number is not in service, if you think you have dialed the wrong number, please hung up and dial again" All three times. You never kept me in the loop. You took my money and disappeared. All I asked was a day for delivery. You kept pushing it back and back, week after week, until there was no way for me to know if I was going to see what I paid for or not. Then I asked for a refund and that's where I lost track of you all together.
This thread is not a slander. Seriously... It is the truth with proof for all to see. _________________ 1956 Buick Century Coupe

I want everyone to know what king of person he is... This is his response to the MOD back on the 6th of Dec:
From: Robert <[email protected]>
To: Everett Barnes <[email protected]>
None of the facts are correct. This beam has been sitting here for several weeks. He's never paid for shipping. We're not going to send a 50 pound beam up state on out dime. I have lived up to every commitment that I've promised.
There is not now, nor has there every been a problem with our phone #. You can try out yourself.

Your forum thread is nothing but slander. Seriously.

I have called him 6 times since Monday, left messages to call me. I have sent him text messages to call me. All were unsuccessful. He still has my money and ignores my requests for a refund.
I want to thank Everett for all his help with this issue. It's good to know that there are decent guys around... Thanks again Everett. _________________ 1956 Buick Century Coupe

I didn't post in here but I did unban him as I indicated he should come in here and respond with his side of the story based on the email he sent above.
So he is currently unbanned but no ads are running. Since this is outstanding, he will be banned again if any ads are reinstated, unless this is resolved. _________________ How to Post Photos

Paypal declined my claim two weeks ago based on the fact that the money was sent as a gift. I email Scott Thompson, PayPal CEO and with in two days I had my money back into my account. Their legal department is going after him. _________________ 1956 Buick Century Coupe
