that's one of the best things about bus hunting, going into unkown territory, finding stuff, doing deals that no one else can get done or are too lazy/cheap to make it happen, doing the extraction and pissing off the local VW guys.

You left out the possibility that maybe the local guy has been working on the owner for ten years, and the timing has never been just right to make the deal. Sometimes money isn't the issue. Oh well.
Or maybe the local guy pissed him off bugging him for 10 years and your timing was perfect for him to get revenge. Laughing
Yet another possibility, for sure. Wink But the inference was that it's great fun to get deals out from under the lazy, poor locals because you have more money.
here we go again with your little complex...i know plenty of people that are cheap that have tons of money. there is the old saying "how do you think he got so rich.....? drinking cheap wine"

that said, i have no doubt that if you pull out more money than the last guy, you'll get the deal done. that's no secret. i got that doubledoor mango bus outta central PA because i was told at $1000, the owner would men and haw. i pulled out $1500 and got the deal done. the difference was not enough to change anyone's life but it was enough to get me the bus.

money won't always do it. at the time I bought my mouse grey bus, I had been working the owner him for a couple years, and was close to getting him to sell, when I called the owner and he told me that someone else had been trying to buy it. I asked what he had offered, and the owner said that he wasn't trying to start a bidding war but the other guy had offered $6k. I told the owner that I could match that offer, but do no better. the next day, he agreed to sell it to me at the same price he had turned down in cash in person the week before. the owner was very attached to the bus and wanted to see it go to the right owner. they weren't particularly moved by money, but they weren't going to leave any laying on the table. they had owned it for over 40 years, and I will own it for the next 40 if I am around that long.

My little complex. That's funny.

My complex helps me see through BS. Your story above is true, I'm sure. But the inference you make every time this stuff comes up is that other enthusiasts don't have the cash to get the job done, and those with more cash enjoy getting that job done while getting a vehicle that someone else may have been working on, saving for, creating allegiances, and dreaming about. We've all seen it happen, and it sucks.

Money, like alcohol and adversity, doesn't change character, it reveals it.

Interesting roof too. They have done something to it there. It looks like a cover running from about 10 inches from the front all the way to just short of the back.

I believe in some parts of the world they call it "snow."

66 velvet green standard is probably a goner. it's pretty rusty. it's a shame too because it looks like it was nice when it was parked. it did have a complete type 3 engine bolted up in the engine bay, so it will fit. when i go back i'll take a pic of the set up

1966 titan red and white 13 window. old man claims it has mountian gears. i forgot to check the m-codes. this on is saveable i think. i'm in the process of making a deal on both.

i would of taken more pictures but my new smartphone wasn't acting so smart and i about threw it in the woods.
