hey guys, I have done my research here on TheSamba and there is good information but no clear answer to this question:

The center brake light deck lid uses a three wire turn switch with a strap type housing as shown below. I have bought all the pieces but they are not matchiing up so I am confused as to what I have and what is correct I realize that the early parts might be interchangeable with other makes like BMW etc. Can any of you clarify?

The switch on the far left had a tag with a 211 part # on it. It fits inside the housing but does not do so securely. The other switch fits in the housing securely but it is a six wire switch. It does not have a cancelling mechanism that I can find. The housing is deeper than the typical bus six wire housing I am currently using. Is the pictured housing perhaps a beetle only part and not meant for the bus?

My '57 3-wire switch didn't use a strap housing - it's the same as the later one.

check the opening for steering column tube. it is smaller on a bus 55-67 than on a beetle t/s housing prior to 60 model year.

the reason i say 1955 is because i believe barn doors had beetle size steering tubes, maybe.
