Was just watching the 5:30 news, and the U.S. Weather Service, has just issued a "Avalanche Warning" for the Cascades and The Olympics for the next four days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday).
I'm sure everyone participating in this adventure will be extra careful anyway, I just wanted let you know that warning has been issued. After-all, I don't wanna go up there to help dig out a bunch of buses.
Wish I was going...can't wait to see all the results from this.
*All the Best*

Welcome, it's great to have another person onboard. We might just be needing all the hands we can wrangle to shovel, push and jump up and down on rear bumpers.

Got a wild hair and ran up to the Quilcene Ranger Station today. From there I drove up the Penney Creek Road, Turned on to Big Quilcene River road, then Forest Development Rd 027, then got back on Penny Creek Rd to return to Quilcene. The snow pictures are the Forest Development Rd 027 that more or less parallels Penney Creek Rd. Penney Creek Rd was plowed and cleared from US 101 to at least 4+ miles. My shocks and seat springs got a good workout on the Development Rd 027

I really wanted to get to Lord's Lake but had to turn back because I want ed to make sure I was home before dark.

Trying to correlate rd names and numbers between Google Earth, The Park Maps, and my GPS has been a pain in the A** Confused

Wise Advise:

1) Check into the Quilcene Ranger Station to get updated road closure and conditions.

2) I asked specifically about roads 27, 28, 2880 and 2870. I was told that they were not on the list of closures (as of that minute).

3) Bring extra batteries for the cameras. Don't ask me why Sad

4) Be safe, return safe

The fate of my trip lies in the hands of my boss who is supposed to get back to me tomorrow. Geesh, I miss the days of working M-F 8-5. Guess we don't always get what we want.

Just in case, I topped off the oil and tranny fluid today. Replaced a leaky exhaust gasket and connected the battery charger. Also scored two sets of brand new chains for $35. I'll bring both sets with me in case someone else needs to use them.

I so need an adventure like this.

I will be there! Got most of my prep and pack up done last night, will finish today and tonight. Our plan: I leave Maple Falls by 4:00 AM, meet with Mike in Bellingham if he can make it at about 4:45, then down I-5 to Edmonds/Kingston ferry by about 7:00 where we will meet with Jes67. Then from Kingston across the Hood Canal bridge to the Olympic Hwy and then down to Quilcene. If everything goes right we should be there on time by 10:00.

I'm in! Though I'll be tired as hell due to getting off at midnight, I am so looking forward to this trip.

If someone has a pair of bolt cutters or something that can cut off excess chain links, please bring them. My chains fit well but there is excess that needs to be hacked off to keep the sparks from flying.

There was a mudslide today on Highway 101 near Hoodsport. Anyone coming from Olympia or Portland might see some minor delays because they are alternating traffic.

I've got some bolt cutters I can bring along.

I'm planning on leaving by 6:30 to make it by 10 with some breathing room.
Thanks for the heads up on the mudslide, Greg.

Man, I'm really looking forward to the biscuits and gravy at Loggers.
