I don't know the paint color. My M-code sheet is missing from under the fuse block. |

Blauer Blitz = Blue Lightning
Some confused and possibly dyslectic folks call it "light blue" but we know better.
I'll have to check to see if my M-code sheet is still there and ledgible. I'll need it soon cuz my truck will be having some body and paint work done soon. |

That sounds like an appropriate VW color name. |

I took 9 people to the hot springs the other day. Last summer I took 10 people to a baseball game in my vanagon gl. I said to my brother in law that's why they call it a transporter. Except I don't think mine is one. What exactly makes a type3 a transporter?
I'm thinking I'm gonna stick dam badge on the back anyway. |

A type 3 is a fastback, notchback or squareback.
A t3, t25, vanagon or transporter are the same vehicle depending on where you are- in the us or overseas. |

So who got the emblem? Just depeded on the geography of where your van was sold?
Thanks for the correction I thought t3 meant type 3. I bow before your omnipotent vnagon knowledge. |

The only reason that I know the difference is that I was into type 3s long before vanagons
The transporter emblem is hard to get and I believe NLA.
The part number is on page 1, swing by the dealer and see if they can get one in the states or overseas for you. |

Actually a T3 is the Vanagon or Transporter. It is sometimes called a Type 25, which is also correct - to an extent - it will actually be a Type 251 or Type 254 or similar. It really is still a misnomer in the VW arena (officially anyway).
a T25 isn't actually correct in any way. It came about in the same way as people use T3 when the mean a type 3. They are very, VERY different.
It is widely used incorrectly, but gets very confusing when you want parts - lots of people get snotty about it all, but if they used the correct terms they would find life a LOT easier!
TYPE is for vehicle type:
Type 1 Beetle
Type 2 Microbus (transporter, kombi etc)
Type 3 square, Notch etc
Type 4 411 412
T is for generation of Transporter
T1 Split window microbus
T2 Bay Window
T3 Vanagon
T4 Eurovan, first gen front drive platform
T5 5th generation
etc
The T1 and T2 were actually introduced retrospectively, VW started to use T3, so started using T1 and T2 for the previous models.
So type is for a model type, and the long type code ( such as 114, 251, etc) gives more details - left/right hand drive wagon/sedan/fastback etc.
I know this is a bot (LOT) off topic, but I hope it helps - confused the hell out of me when I was new to the VW scene!

This obviously isn't a Transporter badge, but the Caravelle badge is pretty cool too:

It's easy, this is the way people calls it:
UK: T25
EUROPE EXCEPT UK: TRANSPORTER T3
USA: VANAGON
SOUTH AFRICA: MICROBUS

I must throw in $o.o2.
Carat is plush, lower sitting, fiberglass side cladding Vanagon.
Multivan is the Westfalia pop-top without the sink/fridge. rear cabinet only.
I have a "Wolfsburg edition" weird crossover year in 87 that has half vinyl/hlaf cloth door cards, fat bumpers without side cladding, sits lower, no po-top or rear cabinet but has the folding table and rear facing jump seats.
To make things even more confusing this is how I have mine badged.
Now I have a GLI badge over the last holes, I tell people it is a very limited edition Wolfsburg Kombi GLI. haha. _________________ 1987 Wolfsburg T25 still riding out. A bunch of other VW's passed on... |

My Multivan sits low with the cladding all the way around and has the pop top and just the rear cabinets along with the cool big table.
Sorry to go OT but there are just too many variants to keep track of and all the various rear badges used in lots of different places.
What ever you call it, it is still a VW. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

Exactly what I said.
and yes you are correct, so many variants it's rediculous to keep up with, thus my silly badging. _________________ 1987 Wolfsburg T25 still riding out. A bunch of other VW's passed on... |

Somewhat related:
I got stopped at a checkpoint in rural Arkansas last summer on the way to a festival. The officer asked for my registration, and I obliged. He looked at the registration and walked to the back of my rig, which has a "TRANSPORTER" badge.
He came back up to the window. He looked at the registration again. He didn't say anything for a few moments.
Sensing the issue, I said, "Transporter is the German name for Vanagons. It's just a German badge."
He thought about it for a minute, then said, "OK. You're good, move along."
He was as confused as this thread is. _________________ Joe T.
