Changed the tar that was gear oil with 75-90 gl-4 fully synthetic gear oil. Also changed one of the fuel vapor recovery lines that passed byt he gas heater and was brittle. And when I was doing that I noticed the fuel lines and filter for the gas heater have seen better days.

finally took the time to redo my front double tube bumper. The 2 lower support bars rubbed on the sway bar when hit a bounce.

cut them free and rebent 2 new pieces of tubing. got them welded in place. welds not as pretty as first ones. it has been over a year since I originally built the bumpers.

hope to get back to powder coater before end of this week.

definitely now have clearance on lower support bars and sway bar.

no more banging noises on bumps.

My duck-boards were in need of some attention. I sanded them all down, re-stained and then put on a fresh coat of polyurethane... They look all new again! Good to go for another 5 or 6 years... Very Happy

Got the motor out to address a few minor issues.
Cleaned up my "1 dollar swap meet" BR8 distributor (019).
Got an adapter plate so i can run a 30pict on it.
(thanks to Eric Z. for the Bosch parts and adapter plate)
I 'm gonna install the correct, non-vacuum port left side end casting that i sandblasted to look all purdy.
Hopefully i can get to my leaky master cylinder as well.
its gonna be my daily driver again. Cool

Nice looking Thing! Love the centerlines!.. Oh, it looks like someone Louvered your muffs, Definently not stock, but good thinking to get more direct air in there....especially with top down/off driving!.. some folks open up the leading surface for more air, first time I've Seen louvers..

Have fun!

Beautiful Weekend for Camping and Travelling - Camping somewhere in the beautiful Northeast Georgia Backwoods in a tiny sleeper cabin just big enough for a double bed and a table and two chairs. Beautiful weather, nice outing.

Here in Georgia, there is a little 3-mile stretch of highway with a familiar name:

It crosses the Savannah River where it originates as it pours out of the Lake Hartwell Dam, which separates Georgia and South Carolina and the highway then goes into South Carolina to become:

Just across the state line there is a wild little club just for for Type 181 owners....

After roughly 2 days of beating with a hammer, gently repositioning with a crow bar, turning on the lathe, painting, chiseling, etc.. I finally have 944 torsion bars, spring plates, and urethane bushings! The initial test drive gives me some hope that the Thing can be made to chase a Porsche.

Next on the list: fit the rest of the 944 parts, pick out some new tread for the Cookie Cutters, bump up the saggy tail just a little, and figure out why the stupid carb suddenly insists on running rich.

The adventure continues. Very Happy Shocked

Cruised down with "Ratt" to Griot's Garage in Tacoma for a "Caffeine and Gasoline" meet. Mingled with the Lambo, Porsche and Mclaren crowd.

Driving into town this morning, my alternator light came on. I may have overtightened it this last weekend. It was a new belt that apparently had stretched over the course of a few months. So, I made a small adjustment and "Viola", a noisey alternator and my dash lights are on. Thank you....

I hope I didn't hurt it too bad. Anxious

Drove to work after getting a loaner battery (apparently a 7 year old battery that is swelled to the point of exploding doesn't hold a charge) in ~20degree weather got some good looks with no top or curtians.

started to pull the motor. Any advice on getting the lower bolts out?
