Just got the center bored out. They fit perfect. A nice new steel rim to put on your Vanagon

Cool! Any info on wheel size and offset? I'm also curious about weight per wheel if you wouldn't mind grabbing that info too. Thanks for posting this, good to see other options.

They are 16 inch by 6.5 with an offset of 33

Are those the center caps from Van Cafe?
The rims don't look bad and they must be rated for the weight since the tiguan is a big car. Oh, it looks like a tiguan weighs less- Curb Weight 3,433 lbs 1,557 kg but as a steel wheel it is probably strong enough.
What do they cost? How much was the machining?

Yes, those are Mefro center caps from Peter. I got the rims for 83$ a piece but I get a discount through my shop. I thing list price is 110$ maybe. I agree,they should be plenty strong. The machining was 25$ a rim but you could do it yourself since they don't hub center. Depending on you machine shop, it could be cheaper. Saving up for some Duratrac's to put on there now. Razz

Those duratracs look like a good tire and they get good reviews on tirerack.com. The E load rating might make them ride a little rough though. I will be buying some for my truck when I have the funds. They are even available in a tall skinny version if someone wanted to go that route.

Love the way those Duratracs look. Bill has those on his green machine. Should ask him how loud they are. I was thinking to get the 225 75 16.

I know that bill, Alaric.H and VWhead all run that tire in that size so they must fit but I think they all run a burley trailing arm. I have that size BFG on my van and it was so close to the trailing arm seam that you couldn't see any clearance but it didn't rub so I got the modded trailing arms. The tread pattern looks quieter than a BFG for example but I will ask bill and VWhead next weekend their opinion since they have been running it for some time now.

Cool! I wonder how much room there is inside that rim for big brakes...

At present I'm ristricted to 16 inch wheels because of tyres for offroading but restricted to Alloys because I've got 330mm brakes to fit inside the wheels.

I've yet to see a 16 inch steel wheel which will fit over 330mm brakes.

What's the part number? My VW parts program doesn't include vehicles past 2008 Crying or Very sad

I'd expect you to have clearance problems in the front wheel well with 225-75-16

The stock tires have a diameter of 25.5 inches

I recently installed 195-75-16 with a diameter of 27.5" which is 6.7 or so % larger, and experienced a little bit of rubbing, and this is with a 1985 which has the tallest springs I think of the vanagon's, not including syncro's.
I'm going to be installing taller springs.

You're talking about a 225-75-16, 29.3" diameter, 12.4% larger. !

It is a syncro- look at the upper control arm. They have more room due to the different front end.

I can get those wheels. . . $80 ea, plus shipping from Los Angeles. Must be a popular wheel in Canada, because all the Dealers up there have swallowed all the current VW inventory.

These are the best wheels that VW has offered in the last 15 years, as far as Vanagons are concerned. The 2002-2005 Passat steelies were okay, 15x6 ET37. I have been running those on my Syncro. As soon as the 30" bfg mud terrains wear, I'm going with the Tiguans.

At 80$ that would be a great rim for the Syncro's . I like the fact that they are 1/2 wider then the Mefro's and the center caps work on those. If Canada is done buying those that is. I think mine came from Texas to the Dealer in Walnut Creek

These duratracs are pretty sweet,225 75 16's on Eurovan 16x7 steelies with wheel adapters up front.

It also requires Burleys's 16'' trailing arms
