|
|
Hey Gang, need some help. I'm down in North Carolina and my 181 is back home in Ohio. I need some measurements from the doors:
Top to bottom of complete door.
Top of door to top of upper rib.
Distance between the two ribs.
Bottom of bottom rib to bottom of door.
Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Kubelmann,
Thanks a million. Only problem is that, on my screen anyhow, the photos are way too small to read the tape. Could you post the top right photo in a much larger size? That one appears to answer all my questions.
Thanks,

Semper Dad,
I answered this yesterday but my reply apparently disappeared into cyberspace. No, I am getting some transfers made to put on the doors.

That gate idea is intense ... and, of course, I love it. _________________ Now: 2003 New Beetle Turbo S / 1990 Single Cab Transporter / 2014 Tiguan R-Line 4motion / 2013 Tiguan S / 2002 Golf GLS TDI

The gate idea was where I hoped he was going. |

It would not be tough to modify a stock door into a tube frame using the stock hinge and latch assembly. Very cool

Or forget about the tubes altogether and get busy with the plasma cutter.

I don't see any reason to harm any existing doors. Just make a tube frame and use some hinge pins and an inside latch assembly. No need for an exterior handle.
Something like this;
Sorry, didn't have any convenient software to straighten out the hinge pins

That is the beauty of car lore. What you think is cool someone else sees no reason for. And so it goes. |
