Check this out, my friend just picked up a '66 Baltic Blue Square, VIN 366311284, which is a May production. (I believe, if I looked up the VIN correctly)
Here's the kicker. It's all 12v. The whole car. Is this typical? I've never seen an '66 as a 12v. It wasn't converted either, it looks 100% factory.
He pulled the motor this morning, and even the trans is 12v. All it needed was a pressure plate. Sweet score. Hopefully I can get some pics of it. _________________ Phillip Bradfield

12v became optional on all VWs beginning in 1963, IIRC. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

I've actually seen 12v push button units for the early cars also.
12v "M" codes were 630 and 633. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Nope. That was the first thing I checked! It's definitely all factory though. _________________ Phillip Bradfield

Check to see if the generator is the smaller diameter 12 volt unit. If so I would say your '66 was factory ordered with the 12 volt option. I remember someone having an early wiper switch in the classifieds that was 12 volt, kinda rare also. Also take a look at the voltage regulator if it has the 3/8" spade slide on connectors it is not original. The '66 & earlier 12 volt type 3's had a unique regulator. I remember one for sale years ago. |
