as I have no knowledge of the new owner or the car, but one could be questioned to call Bull@##* on the price, even if it was someone I knew! Smile

With $30k invested, one could be suspicious, if one was so inclined.

Ah! There it is. Now we know why it only sold for $5k. Both Knipping AND Rasche bolts in the steering box. Ok, that explains it. For a minute there I thought someone got a screaming deal.............. Wink

The safety wiring on the front backing plate bolts looks correct. That oil slinger should be tight in the brake drum so that it can't come loose. The radio is a much later model, and the shifter should not be black.

I shit you not. It was 5k. The guy had no paper work to prove any of the work. It obviously had a great deal of work done on it. Just no way to prove it.
He was in terrible shape with creditors. Months ago I offered him 5k and he told me to go piss up a rope. The way I look at it is if there is no documentation on a restoration there is some risk to the buyer. The other thing is the car was sitting for 7 years with out running. I agree...the price is crazy. The other day I was looking the car over on the outside and I knocked on the door with my knuckle and it sounded different than my 65 right next to it. My first thought was KIT CAR! Fiberglass! I ran over and got the magnet and proceeded to check every panel and part on the car...funny. I am still waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Last time I saw a deal this good it was a divorce situation in which the seller had little incentive to get top dollar on behalf of his ex. Sometimes you just get really lucky.

The doors could be mint, but with huge sheets of sound absorbing material applied from the inside.

If those (Coker?) tires are 7 years old, (expired?) that would be a factor.

In fact he was so fearful of this precious little car not coming to a stop he added the additional stopping power of special gold anti go fast metal behind each wheel. There is that other shoe...I have a 57/54. I love it!

Yes I did check all of the numbers on the car. With the exception of the engine which is several newer, all of the other numbers for the body, frame, chassis and transmission read September or October 1954.

While I was looking around the inside of the car found a small paper bag under the passenger seat with these items in it. The saga continues later in the week when the previous owner calls me and says he has more VW junk in his garage he wants to get rid of.

From under the seat.

This was the junk he brought by!
