Here's my 70 I bought back in 06. Jusy started uploading pics and figured I start a page. The project had stopped for 2 years after I finished the pan due to home improvements. I just got back in the garage this winter to start again! I'm still learning things while keeping it fun. Hope i could help anyone in need of info or pictures. I'll be adding more pictures of the work thats done up to date.

Looks like a nice find. Especially for an eastern car. I have a 70 that is the same Ruby Red, by the best you can afford when it comes to parts, there is a lot of crappy stuff out there for these little cars. Good luck!

New looking bug, I wish I had pop out rear windows on mine, I love those! and, Trust me, if you can't afford quality parts, don't buy them because your gonna end up replacing them down the road! Been there done that a time or two

Thanks, it does need some surgery, pans, heaterchannels and to correct some PO hacking. Thanks for the advice! I've been buying the best i can. This site has been great for researching feedback on parts and suppliers. Heres a couple more shots.

Removed the body and stored it outside
Removed pedal cluster, trans and axle shafts
Started cutting out floor pans using sawzall, air body saw and air chisel for leftover spot welds. Spotweld drill to drill other areas out.
Removed the trailing arms.

Thanks red, I like to try to make it better than it was in 1970. Also helps to have a friend who's a welder and owes you some work time!

Started drilling spot welds and cutting mainly to understand how the framehead is assembled and to cut in the right spot. Alot of drilling
New parts
Sliced off the old head! Goo Byeee!
Did some trimming and placed the new head for the first time only to find it needs more.

Thanks, it is alot of work but it will be like a brand new bug n I get the experience of wrenching on it myself. I love working on it and each stage I get through the confidence level rises also. All said and done i could step back and say " I brought this bug back!"

Got to love the VW wiring, make sure the fresh air drain is hooked up so the water won't ruin the trunk.

Cut 2 access holes in side of tunnel to weld clutch tube bracket and run new fuel line.
Degreased the inside of the tunnel and it took of all the paint also!
Then discovered broken clutch tube bracket at the cluster hole
All welded up

Thanks DaniG! The OG paint is nice but its under about 4 other colors!!
Uploaded some more shots. I wanted to keep the german brake hose brackets.
Considerable difference in thickness
Started running the 3/8 SS fuel line through the tunnel
Welded on SS 6AN fittings on each end
PO took a air chisel and opened up the tunnel to the side of the inspection cover to run a rubber fuel line out of. Started straightenig out the metal

Welded in some extra steel for support. Silver paint is Weld-thru II weldable primer. crap for tig welding.
Framehead welded up
Framehead support modified and blasted
First fit for floorpans. Needed a trim here and there but worked out real good.
Cleaned them up and punched holes with air flange/punch tool
Removed th seat tracks in order to install custom seat brackets

Great work, that looks like the hard way to install new gas line unless you are fixing every thing else also. nice welding also.
