OK I see the thread of how long have you had your bus. How about who on the Samba has had their Split bus since they bought it new from the dealer and still own it. Remember folks you must be the first owner from the dealer and it must be a Split Bus not Bay or Bug. This includes the ran when parked in your garage but you must still be the owner. _________________ American Red Cross Safe And Well:

good luck finding that person. I only know of one person who bought their bus new and still owns it. he bought it in 1960....
I bought a '65 singlecab from the original owner last year. it lived at one house its entire life until it came to my garage.
I have bought 5 buses from people who have owned them for over 40 years. _________________ .

My 85 year old aunt in Albuquerque taught me how to Skype
Then she drove me to her brothers in Phoenix and back the next day. They both Skype with me when I am here in the east

Assuming the original owner bought a '67 bus at age 20, they would be 64 years old. I don't know a whole lot of 20 year olds that can afford to buy a new car. More likely they'd be five to ten years older or more, and that's basing the whole assumption on the youngest split window bus available... |

This bus is still owned by the original owner.
She is so old, her adult son drives her around in it. _________________ Call your Cunado's:

Even though our Grandfather gave us his bus, he still drives it around and I consider it his until the day he passes.

I like this thread, shows that the people who drive a bus have as much character as the bus sometimes. Thanks _________________ 1985 Sunroof Vanagon |

There was on old guy who brought his turkis/white bus to OCTO within the last few years. He is the original owner and recently had it repainted. I'll see if I can find a pic. _________________ Jonny

I think it's really uncommon given the age of our VWs now.
I'd owned a bunch of original family VWs over the years though, most commonly being sold by the son or daughter because the grandkids did not want it.
I believe there are still a lot of those types of vehicles out there. _________________ How to Post Photos

There was a bus like this at Bulli 2010 if my memory serves me right.
Close to the "front of the line" against the grass in the parking lot.
It had a sign with some owner/family history I think.
Anyone else remember? _________________

Indeed. Wherein this thread may stop kinda short (unfortunately), a thread on "VWs that came from original family cause kids didn't want it" thread would run for dozens of pages. I'd finally have something to offer... _________________

That's great, kind of puts life into perspective, we get old and die and the buses stay behind, the lucky ones in a sort of time warp. Makes you wonder who really owns who. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!
