so i know there are probably countless threads about this.. and i have looked but nothing i found relates exactly.. so i thought id see if you guys have any ideas..

So my 1600 dual port t3 engine has been running fine for 6-8 months now.. i did my second valve adjustment and changed the oil with 10-30 Royal Purple.. and after a few 150 mile drives the Oil light started coming on at idle.. almost solid at times.. the idle hasnt changed.. nor is there any noticeable leaking or raise in oil temp..

whats is strange though is the car has a ticking noise now that sounds like a loud valve or something.. it only happens after the car has warmed up after a few minutes and sounds like an exhaust leak.. the oil light coensides with this ticking noise.. as the car gets hotter the ticking noise gets to its peak audible sound and the oil light flickers at idle at that point..

what the fuck did i do to this car.. i know in previous post i said i drive my notch 90mph but not all the time.. i mean i cruise at 80 for 100 or so miles..

this happen over time as it didnt show up right after i did the valves or oil change.. it took about a good 300 miles.. also i decided to go back to 30w oil and it seemed to help for a bit keeping the oil cooler for a bit longer.. could just be my imagination..

anyways the pick up is fine int he oil screen and there is again no major leaks anywhere.. im thinking this could be internal like the end play, bearings going bad, or something with the valves..

any possible ideas of what this sounds like?

oh yeah and the car has a weird sort of lop side rotation sound..

so if the car is reving really fast like going 75-80mph and you hear the ticking matches the reving.. but there is a second deeper lower sound that is much slower probaly 10 times slower in fact that sounds like a washer machine out of balance but much slower.. like a cammed lopsided tire going wooom wooom wooom wooom.. really about as fast as you read that.. wtf is that?

Have you checked for exhaust leaks? Are all your tins nice and tight? I had a rear tin that goes over the transmission on the back side of the motor come loose and it would give a weird ticking sound due to vibration that matched the rpms. I also had my choke come loose and cause a boofing sound that wouldn't be at the same beat as the rpms but would match it at a lower ratio.

Those are my only experiences with the situation your describing. Hope you can figure out the issue.

it doesnt sound like rod knock as much as its not super loud.. more of a ticking noise.. the whom whom whom noise sounds seperate.. but could be the bearings on the rod.. it did notice a slight metalic sludge on the screen.. about the size of mouse droping.. really small.. so if it is a rod bearing is not totally broken to bits yet..

i kind of need to drive this car as i live in Sf and the fucking parking patrol will ticket the shit out of my car.. low on funds.. dont know what to do..

fuck.. i would rebulid this motor if i had a place to store my car.. might as well bite the bullet and bring it to ken from donsco in belmont...

turns out i took it to get checked out this morning and it was just an exhaust leak at the heaterbox.. just needed new a new clamp and packing on the passenger side.. so the ticking noise went away.. lol.. and my rpms were too low at idle.. something like 600-750.. barely staying alive.. lol.. red light went away when sync'd to 850 rpms

though i am going to put it up for trade or sale as I kind of want a wagon or a pickup bus.. I love the notch to death but its just not big enough for my lifestyle right now.. and the shockless type 1 beam is still a bitch to me..

Too bad it has a Type 1 beam... I would almost be interested.

yeah if it had the stock beam installed i probably wouldnt even think twice about it.. i still have the beam so after i save up enough money to buy the 5 lug disc brakes from Victor when he gets his ride back from the paint booth.. i may as well keep it if i get the beam back in..

do you think i can still run the shorter rear axles with a stock front beam and wide five conversion.. i just dont want the front wheels to be sitting out wider then the rear.. might look strange to the educated eye.. i have the longer rear axles too.. so hopefully i can fix all the shit i want fixed or replaced cuz i dont really want to sell it.. its a f'n notch..

worst case scenerio you can always have studs pressed into your rear drums and run spacers, or swap the stock stuff back in.
