Finished getting the fuel tank ready it was loaded with sludge and rust. I finally got to use a NOS tap I have had in the parts pile for years

While topping up the tranny and installing magnetic plugs I noticed the reason for my slow starter. Since I had to swap it out I went ahead and rebushed the bell housing. Getting super close to putting in the motor. Only disappointment for today was the original swf flasher relay is crapped out.

Had to fab up a useable drivers side mounting bracket. The old one was thrashed beyond repair. Looking at the mounts and brackets I think someone pulled this thing around with a hook and chain.

Finished the afternoon with a trial fit a few moments with the welder tomorrow and the back can finally be reassembled

Very cool - that has to stay. I'm jealous my car had little to no history, just thrashed and forgotten.

Just wrapped up reuniting some old friends. The patience to get it all hooked up and properly adjusted isnt coming easy.

Reinstalled and adjusted the deck lid so it fits right and locks

Now it is down to wrapping up the fuel system, attaching the motor wiring and hooking up the heat (it is winter and the test drive ain't gonna be quick).

Finally turned off the garage lights and called it a day. Quick bump of the key brings it to life. Pulls good and strong through all gears generating a beautiful purr of gears. I think the signal switch is faulty and will get dug into before I start driving it to work. Got more video to post

Looked and sounded good. I really like the looks of this oval. It has a nice, original "old-world" Germany kind of feel to it if you know what i mean. Congrats on the first run! I can hear your assistant in the background Smile.

Speaking of assistants my 2 year old just kept handing me tools while I was trying to install the W Decklid by myself - always fun! Not to Highjack your thread but any chance you can take some closer pics of the engine lid gap and it's orientation with the hinge assemblies? Yours looks to be pretty decent. I'm trying to get my W adjusted spot-on before I weld the new rear donor apron. The W is off a 1955 but is straight.

I can't seem to get mine adjusted right. It hangs too low and yet still rubs when it's opened. It's an early W with a big spring but I was told the lids themselves are the same from 53-57.

I will shoot some pictures for ya. The mounts the hinges bolt too regularly need to be "adjusted" as they can get bent. Especially if the car has been tapped.

You hit the nail on the head. My oval was definitely tapped front and rear. I tinkered with it some more and it looks like it broke off the rear hinge bolt (the bracket that actually bolts to the vehicle that has three points). Its the back one that is not installed which causes the bracket to ride up when you open the lid since only the front two are installed. It will be interesting to see how you have yours adjusted since I think that will help some.

I love the videos!! I really love the look of your car I'd say don't change anything!! It's very very cool.

I hope to see if in person this year!

It looks like mine won't make it to the Vintage Meet this year Sad

Keep up the good work.
