I paid $20 last year to get the bus in the show which I didn't mind. I went with 6 people last year and only paid $20. There was no way in hell I was going this year because of the per person fee ($15+$10(5)= Your out of your damn mind)so I just went to No Dough instead. _________________ 1970 Adventurewagen Hightop "Penelope"

I bailed him out this morning. It's serious crime to try to sneak into a car show. I think he learned his lesson. _________________ ***WANTED***

The Sunday event was fun --- BUT---
The price for walk-ins was too much for the Daytona Market to handle. We usually have six to eight friends who venture over to support us, they have no interest in VWs except that we love them. At $15 a head they stayed away. We are used to paying to enter car shows. The Turkey Rod Run is $25-35 for four days, we go every year. The Dream Cruise on Oct 22 weekend is free and we don't know how they do it but the sponsors must foot the bill. We payed $10 apiece for the Winter Jam for a total of $20 but it was prepaid before the price jump.
The center field was too loud when the music came on and could have held another twenty busses and bugs. Why people were sent to the sidewalks of Beach street I don't know.
I know the event has to a least break even but hats, sunglasses other non related VW stuff could be left off next years calender.
We had a great time meeting new friends and seeing old friends from Saturdays NDBS. How does the organization rationalize the public getting to see all the bugs and busses on Beack St for free but paying to walk across the bridge
Phyllis and I hope the show goes on and they take a long hard look at all the things thay did right and change the things that left a sour taste in many peoples mouth.
Thanks for all the work, we look forward to a bigger and much improved Winter Jam 2012

Had a good time, sold a roof rack, and got some great deals on parts. Show seemed a little too spread out, but the location was great. _________________ I make HWE style roof racks, Jim-Dandy racks, SO-33 metal parts, Dormobile racks, HWE style ladders, engine crank start handles, Westy rack tags, Binz tags, Sundial badges, State of California tags, steering lock electrical covers and single / double cab gate latch friction blocks.

I had a good time "sort of" at the Jam. Never did venture to where the band? was, way to loud. There were buses where the band was?
They needed to tell their hired security NAZI's to CALM DOWN, we're all real people trying to enjoy a show, they made me feel I was at a concentration camp, I was afraid to even fart thinking I could get ejected for it. Seemed everywhere I walked they were yelling at someone, sheesh
You could tell it wasn't really a VW event due to the lack of planning of trying to keep all makes and models together. Would of been nice to see all the water pumpers in one area, all the buses in one area and all the beetles in one area.
WAY to many food and junk vendors, but thats what brings in their money I guess.
Was it a success or failure, who knows. I'd be back next year for Jam if they'd remember the roots of VW's. The location was nice though.
The best part for me though was I did get in for FREE, guess the girls at the gate gave me the senoir discount paid for a NICE lunch across the street at a nice bistro with the money I saved. _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

It was $13 after Feb 1st but before that is was $10 per person, under 12 free. Not sure when it went from $13 to $15 but I'm guessing about one week before show. _________________ When the children get older and want to know where the money went, show them your vacation videos. |

cost me and my son $30 to walk in, we parked out on the street so we could easily leave when we wanted.
All the food variety was good, most of the time people complain there is not enough food vending.
How about $5 and a can of food for spectators? That would be better, the promotor can keep the cash and donate the food to a food bank charity. _________________ OGJHC

drove to this show early Sunday morning, got there, they charged me $40.00 for 2 vending spots, I did not know what was going on, so I thought $40.00, that's cool...start to drive in, Joe stops me and tells me that I sell new parts so that it would be $250.00 for 2 spots, I pay Joe an additional $200.00...he cuts me a little slack, so I get in for $240.00......the location was nice, I see alot of food vendors, which is nice, there was an ATM there which is nice also.....there were alot of people selling a ton of diferent stuff...I thought there was a descent turnout.....but the big thing was the atmosphere, it was kind of hostile, not very laid back like on Saturday, people were upset about the entry fee....watching those 2 delincuents get chased around by the security Gestapo was kind of fun...I sold all of $200.00....I left shortly after the Gestapo arrested the 2 delinquents........all in all a weird kind of VW day.... _________________ that's not patina, that's fucking rust man!!!!

They should really look into those gate fees, Leana and I knew we were going to be hitting the road around noon sunday, but I wanted to say bye to some of the folks I spent the weekend with b4 we split, so I parked outside and relunctanly paid $30 to walk around for about an hour, $15 for spectators is a bit steep anywhere, and I'm used to paying high fees around here, the atmosphere was one of a watercooled event that opened the doors to some aircooled vws out of pitty.

The problem seems that the peeps who ran Winter Jam last year pissed off many in the Florida VW scene. Those pissed off folks in turn decided to set up their own show for the very same weekend to stick it to the old Winter Jam guy. Two problems though:
1. The guy who ran WJ and screwed everybody last year no longer is associated with Winter Jam and the guy who took it over is getting forked in the name of his predecessor. Many have realized their error and made the anti-Winter Jam banter now about having to pay 15 stinking bucks. Sorry but if 15 bucks is to much for you to pay for a show than maybe you should look around and look at how other prices have gone up over the years- gas, groceries, ACVWs, etc. Looking at the WJ lineup, your WJ money is providing you a lot in return.
2. The VW scene in Florida is neither big enough nor strong enough to support this riff. So, why don't we all just get along? |
