And the deer I was trying to avoid didn't even stop to see if I was alright. Sad

This happened Yesterday morning around 5:30am. She was my daily driver.

I escaped with only a a few bruises and a bit of a black eye.

I'm very glad nobody was in the passenger seat. That whole side up there is a mess. I'll get more photos of her tomorrow if anyone is interested.

Everything in the engine compartment seems surprisingly fine. The $240 I owe from the tow before I can move it on the other hand...

Had a heck of a time finding my personal belongings in it once I got in (only thing that would open is the back hatch, I didn't even think of climbing in through the roof). I don't remember getting out of the bus after the accident, I guess I crawled through the roof.

- ???

I haven't gotten past that, but am open to advise!

Oh and I guess I should try to find the top I had on it! Shocked

That sucks,

but I'd tell you what we told our drivers at my old plant, Hit the Mo-Fo..

they'd had tankers rolled from Deer, Dogs, Turkey, plastic bags, you name it..

your 1st reaction is to protect yourself & the vehicle. possibly you consider the deer.. but the end result is you endanger yourself, your car, the ### can still get hit anyways. and worst case is another vehicle or person..

if you'd hit the deer, you coulda liekly driven home, and you get to keep the meat.. Wink

best of luck with the salvage and glad you're OK.

I bet the deer hit damage would have hurt YOU more than the rollover did.

My buddy hit a cow the other day in his fastback; completely totalled.

Damn.

You need to at least salvage the engine/transmission for your next bus...

I agree, but honestly I don't remember much besides seeing the deer suddenly, then standing by the side of the road. I started out just smoothly slowing and turning (I was moving towards the shoulder), but the deer couldn't decide what direction he was going, adrenaline kicked in, etc.

...Or he might've just bounced off the spare tire mounted to the front. Wink

Can't say for sure, see my first comment in this post. I'm gonna go to the scene tomorrow and check out the skid marks and all that, maybe jog my memory a bit and guestimate how quickly I turned.

So sorry to see that. Work with the insurance and try to save as many parts as you can for the next bus.

Not too much if you try.(DON"T TRY) An old friend of mine (crazy Tony) accidentally put his bus on it's side. A few days later he turned the opposite way on purpose and put it on the other side. " So both sides match" Rolling Eyes

raintheory, I'm glad you're OK.

Glad you are okay. Sorry about the bus. Whether to hit the deer or not is all pure speculation and luck of the draw. I hit a mule deer this year in my Ford E150 at about 70mph. I had no time to think about anything but brake and steer. Pure reaction and cursing. Hope your luck changes for the better!

What!? I'm appalled. I hope you were kidding! If he had hit the deer, the front end of the bus AND the deer would have gone through him. Then again, one could live a fine life with no legs, right? Good grief. He is LUCKY he missed it. Even with the roll, his survival rate was much higher that way. He walked away and although the bus suffered, the important thing is he survived.

Are you near me, OP? If so, come get a bus. Wink You can have a parked 77 or 76, no charge.

Michelle

Edit: Darn. Virginia is a way away.

That is one of the nicest things I have heard in a long time. That is great of you.

Years back I hit a Honda CRX at 45-50 mph in a '72 bus. T-Boned. Their fault. I had trouble walking for 2 weeks.
