I can't believe it. Russ will be missed by many and especially the off-road forum. He was the only voice of reason over there. Losing 2 off-road moderators to cancer is unbelievable. Rest in peace Russ. |

i met russ after he knocked on my door and introduced himself. it seemed he flew out from iowa to meet my son face to face after so many years talking in chat with brad who passed a few days later. he seemed like such a nice guy to me. i put him for 2 days at the house and we had several good conversations. russ talked with brad several times during his stay and once asked if he do anything for him, brad replied i'd like some biscuits and gravy and russ took off to flo's cafe at the chino airport to get one of brad's favorite meals. it was a bright spot on miserable day for both of them.
they had so much in commom despite 40 years age difference it was volkswagen, volkswagen and more volkswagen. they both suffered from cancer, both lost a kidney amongst other parts.
bless the wolfe family on their loss of russ.............

Russ and I always clashed. But I had a ton of respect for the guy. You'd be a fool not to respect a guy with so much knowledge of VWs, and so much experience with them. I just wish I would have let him know it. I had him on my mind a few weeks ago, but I never did come into chat to tell him.

Another crushing blow to the Samba and the VW world. I feel for his
family and close friends.
I never met Russ in person and envy those of you who did get to know him and spend time with him. We always had some good laughs and talks about things VW and non VW in chat and PM's... traded parts etc many times.
I hope he is resting in peace and thankful he's not in any more pain in this life.
Godspeed Russ... |

Very sad news indeed. The VW community lost a mentor and a dear friend. I bet there isn't a single person in these forums who hasn't been impacted in some way by Russ's wisdom.
RIP Russ

WOW... I just came over this post and couldn't believe it. I had never met Russ but always enjoyed his great advice and envied a man that had loved to work and play with these wonderful little cars for so many years. It seemed to be his passion. He will not be forgotten.
Rest in Peace Russ. |

Deeply saddened and struck deep to hear about the passing of Russ. What he has done for people on the forums here is beyond compare. With the knowledge of a professor and a heart of gold we all have been touched by him. Deepest thoughts and many prayers go out to his family and friends. I’ve had him on the mind a bit lately and knew something may be wrong when posts don’t come from him on a daily bases. Thank you Russ Wolfe will all due respect. _________________ Justify denials and grip it to the lonesome end

I spoke to Russ week before last as I was driving through the area.
Now I've just read this thread.
Thanks for everything, Russ. Peace. |

I met Russ here like all of us, and then in person at the Myrtle Creek Invasion.
Russ was one of those people who pass through our lives that change your life in an immeasurable way for the better. I feel that in some way i am a better man from knowing him.
We traded and bought and sold parts back and forth and even getting parts from him before i sent his. I have some parts on my car that came from him so he will be riding with me from here on out.
Now the bitter pill...I think we all could could afford to be more "Russ like" ln our conduct and helpfulness here . I think that would be the kind of legacy he would want...
