Does anyone know which cars VW will display at Techno Classica Essen, The greatest classic-fair of the world, from 30th* March until 3rd April 2011?
From the official website www.siha.de, I've copied this section:
But the TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN 2011 can offer additional superlatives: It is the greatest platform for the presentation of the historic divisions of the international automobile- manufacturers and importers. Some companies have already announced headwords for their appearance:
• Mercedes-Benz celebrates 125 years automobile
• BMW looks back on 75 years BMW 328 and 50 years "New Class".
• Volkswagen Classic addresses to the topic cabriolet.
• Opel will point to the 150th anniversary, which shall be celebrated in 2012.
• The motto of the Ford-stand is "80 years made in Cologne"
Also the grant appearance of the importers as for example Peugeot, Citroen and Alfa Romeo has good tradition: 2011 the TECHNO-CLASSICA will join the entire range of important automobile-manufacturers under the same roof again.
I assume the 1949 Karmann that was already on display in 2009 will be one of the cars, but what else will they bring to the show?

A rumour is going that they will show some cars from the Karmann collection that they bought after they went bancrupt.
But it is only a rumour... 
I'll go on saturday. You will go sooner I guess. So you know it before me.

| I was there yesterday. What an amazing event! Fleets of very cool Porsches and NSUs and of course a lot more... From official VW-point of view: They focus on 1960-1990 Karmann prototypes this year. If you are into "early vintage aircooled" - the VW-hall has disapppointingly little to offer this year.... Besides a very nice brown 51 Bug and the 1950 Westfalia of the Grundmanns. |

Compared to the 2010 edition (when Autostadt presented the 'VW coachbuilts') this year was a little less, true. I had expected to see more Vintage VW cabriolets on the Volkswagen Classic stand. The 1949 wasn't there for example. On the other hand, seeing the T34 cabriolet prototype from the Karmann collection was a nice surprise
All together, a great event, worth driving the distance. A Long day, but fun.
@SplitPersonality: It was nice to meet you there and to have some (big) German beers together

Volkswagen has their restored Pearl White 1963 Type 34 Cabriolet, one of five originals known to have survived, on display. And Goetz Fastabend's beautiful Cherry Red 1969 T34 with manual Golde sunroof is on display with the German KG clubs booth. Carsten Klein just shared some pics.
