Is the bumper on the Red bus a VWoA bumper? What is that style called? It is sick...luv it. It looks like a Bice bumper on the bottom, the vertical bars are nice...
Anyone? Is this straight custom or was it a manufactured piece? |

I like that bumper too.
I don't think it's a Bice, just a custom.
I'd like something like that for my '62.
That way I wouldn't stress about driving at night on dirt roads in the bush.
I might get something like that made up.
Should be cheap enough.

Someone asked me for some reference photos of my Aussie roo bars, and I finally found time this afternoon while I was giving the Kombi a little TLC.
I'm not sure when they were introduced, I thought near the end of production of Splits. I guess an aftermarket part but I don't know the manufacturer. If anyone has any info on them I'd be interested.
Back of the bars mounted to one of the beam bolts
Front fits onto the bumper bolts
You can see the bars mounted to the bus are bigger, the top part drops into these and is held in place with a pin. Mine have been welded up in the past

Ok...who has a stash of VWoA bumpers laying around...and...will entertain thoughts of letting one go?
or...???
ANY INDUSTRIAL FRONT OR REAR BUMPER?...CUSTOM?
Been eyeing the classifieds and nothin there...not for a while...there is a set of Bices, but I'm not looking for a Hurst or Bice...lil sumthin different. I figure I'd check with this thread, since the Industrial Lovers frequent it... |

All I'd suggest would be to look at the sort you like and then get busy with a welder.

yeah...i've heard that a few times already. I don't have a problem trying some minor welding fitment issues. But I don't have a tig (I have a small mig) nor the ability to make bends....(well nice looking bends anyway)...so i thought i'd try b4 i went that avenue....I figure someone is sitting on 1,2 or 10 of them...
But yeah, making my own will be a last option... |

Cool...thanks Bill for the offer. I will definitely take that into consideration...
What size stock do you think I should as a minimum for heightened safety factor? |

Just found some excellent photographic evidence showing Aussie roo bars being used far earlier than I originally thought. ( I wasn't even sure if they were Split era production tbh)

making it your self(bice e.a) will be a pretty big job welding/grinding
and the bends of a bug bumper fit
hope this isn't abortion thread material
