How do I get these off to get the strut assemblies off? Hoping for some sure shot methods, as my vice clamps are just slipping on it.

put them in a vice - use a pipewrench (just don't mess up the collar)

Thanks Mike, I'll pick one up after work.
Another strut question, though. I notice in diagrams there is what looks like a rubber cylinder that goes under the boot. Part 21 in the following diagram:

Mine didn't have these on either side. I plan on picking them up, but any possible damage this may have caused to the struts?

#21 is the dust boot. They are inexpensive to buy new and worth the money. Keeps a lot of dirt and crap out.

Yea and see the swivel plates ?
Need to clean them up and grease them with some white lithium as well as feel them up for roughness .
Also look at C.B. performance for idler arm bushing .
There better as front end shimmy was inherent to S.B. cars due to a weak Idler arm bushing .
In other word's there bushing is the big fix for S. B. ?

What the heck does this mindless drivel have to do with anything? Swivel plates? Are you referring to the strut bearing? And what does the idle arm bushing have to do with this when the OP hasn't commented one way or the other. While you're at it, if you're going to scrabble-ramble about the idle arm bushing then point out the brass replacement is superior to the OE rubber/aluminum part. There are many sources for the brass replacement.

Pipe wrench worked like a charm! I didn't have a vice do I just went full redneck and wedged the strut between two thick tree trunks Laughing
I see why in other topics you guys say to put grease (or is it oil?) in to these. One strut just slid right out, the other I had to grip and hammer the strut housing downward until it eventually gave out. Bosch struts, so does that mean they were stock originals?
Any recommendations to what kind of oil or grease to pack in there for reassembly?
