ball joint holds the front suspension together ("holds the front wheels on")

constant velocity joints provide power to turn the rear wheels from the transaxle, yet allow the R. susp. to move up & down while still providing a .... constant velocity - they replaced "U" joints on Porsche 911s in the early 1960s, not sure re T'porter evolution

might be fun for you to search up a web site on how things work or something & locate the cars section

A ball joint is a front suspension/steering part used on most every car out there. A CV joint is a style of universal joint used in the drive train to transmit power. Google will get you more info than you ever want to know.

In my experience both gave ample warning that they wanted to be replaced... never had a catastrophic failure of either though I seem to recall some volks have had CVs fail abruptly.

If your CV fails, you have no power to the wheels, but you do have control.
If your ball joint fails, your front wheel falls off. Literally.

Not sure why, but you just made me laugh out loud. I think it was the mental image of watching your front wheels roll away.

Like that old song "Rusty Chevrolet":
"I went to the IGA
To get some Christmas cheer
I just passed up my left front tire
And it's gettin' hard to steer"
