Ianstone posted here many months ago about doing a Subaru swap. But he was put off by the expense of doing one using professionals like Buslab.
Looks like he procrastinated a few months too long... and is now stuck at GoWesty? |

I did not procrastinate. As i said in my first post, I have been saving all winter so i can make this happen. I surely could have waited for a 10c motor - but didn't know anyone that would put it in and as i said i wanted the peace of mind that a warranty would provide. I also mentioned i'm not a wrencher or even part time mechanic, so I wanted something reliable that would come with some sort of guarantee.
I wasn't necessarily put off by the expense of the subaru swap, that was only part of it.
I had already invested in a new cooling system, new trans, fuel lines, plugs wires distributor and more on the WBX. From my understanding these would just be sunk costs and i'd be starting over if i went subaru. I also thought that having a custom setup might make it tougher to find people willing to work on - especially out on the road. Also, being from CA the Subaru options are not that wide, due to CA smog laws. So i did have more reasons than just $, but thanks for making an assumption and making me out to be someone who is up the creek without a paddle.
I'm not "Stuck" at go westy.
After saving all winter, i brought the van down there by choice. I live in the bay area and it was a good 230mi to get the van there.
I started this thread to get opinions discussing the 2200 go westy engine vs. the 2300. I even posted in my OP that i didn't want to hear the "oh you should have got a 10cent" replies. But thanks for putting me and my choices down.
To the rest of you - i really appreciate the well thought out responses and responses that answer my original question.
Oasis: I can wait, and i have waited all winter. My goal was to do it in the spring so i can use the van worry free for the summer camping season. Have a few reservations locked down at yosemite and plan to go other places too.
I have decided to go with the 2200, and an entirely new exhaust system.

Sounds like you are in good hands.
I am not a fan of building the waterboxer past 2.2 myself.
Boston Bob was a good friend and he schooled me when I contacted him to build me a superboxer.
If they choose to and give a warranty of 4 years 48k miles,
all the power to them.
That's awesome!
I can relate to clients wanting the job done right.
I have a few of those myself.
Its a GW thread and I am not knocking them at all, I support most of what they do and appreciate all that they offer parts wise.
They certainly have the buying power I wish I had when NLA or fabricated parts come available.
I'd snatch it all up too. |

Regardless I did not feel being called a procrastinator was anything positive or contribute in a good way to this thread.

Good for you.
My Super was totaled three years ago. It still hasn't been replaced. The Vanagon/EuroVan replacement ideas have been festering for a long time, too, with an actual plan finally coming into focus.
Waiting has its virtues. Waiting ain't always what it's cracked up to be. Seems like you found the right balance. I envy you.
