I need to change the battered aprons on my 71 super. I've been looking at pictures of aprons, but can't tell what needs to be done. Is there a page or something somewhere that shows this procedure? Is welding required?
Thanks from a first time poster. |

I found the easiest way to remove the apron is to get a cut-off tool and cut it right down the center. Then pull the pieces back and chisel at the sides. You dont necessarily have to weld a new one in. You rivet it at the sides since the fenders would cover them. |

Click on the my gallery link ( bottom of this post next to last on the right), and I have some pics posted of a rear clip and a whole front clip job on a Beetle.
and a total tire well on the front of a super
the super front apron is similar to the rear apron actually.
you need to remove all 4 fenders to drill out the spot welds holding the apron on to the body.
if you need any other help just let me know. |

Thanks for the tips and stuff. I'm still a little leery of my skill level on this. |

Buy a spot weld cutter, it will make life a lot easier. All you will have to do then is grind down the factory welds. |
