MISSION ABORTED!!
I blew out #1 spark plug 2.5 miles out of town an had to turn back @ 3:17 pm PST.
I have a spare motor and now am dropping the current motor to start swapping the intakes, carbs, dist, and fuel pump to the spare.... Jr. Bear (son) is pulling the bumper/apron/wires&lines now. All I need is gaskets once I get it on the ground.
Anyone?
Although VERY dissapointed, I am just glad that this didn't happen out in the middle of nowhere.... I have kids. No fun broken down on the side of the freeway with my little girls; my 15yrold son could handle it... not them.
Got lottsa work to do if we're gonna try to make it... and I had good stuff to swap this year too, damn-it!
I will update our progress.... _________________

Great show again as always. Good to see you Damian, as well as Damon and the rest of the posse. Couldn't have asked for better weather. I was leaning on leaving early do to a bum tummy(thank you "hidden" bathroom!) But I did manage to stay long enough to win a new stereo for the bug. Not much would keep me from attending this show! Thank you NOS club for another great show. _________________ your mom is a ho |

Solo Road Trip from Paso Robles to Madera, CA
I headed out to Madera early Saturday afternoon. Cruising out 46 East I was going into a 20mph headwind and just barely pulling 4th gear with all that stuff on the top rack. About this time I was really wishing I had the James built 2110 from my yellow bus in doubleugly! Then what do I see right on my tail in the mirror?, a split window bus, it's Matthew (Mr.Motorhead). He blew past me at the next passing lane with a wave that said, "see you in Madera!" He did check on me to make sure I arrived later in the day My plan was to take the scenic route at a slower speed via the Parkfield Coalinga Rd.
First stop was the James Dean Memorial in Cholame.
Then the left turn to Parkfield which is 15 miles north of 46. I was feeling confident doubleugly would make it.
One of a few one lane bridges on this road.
Crossing the San Andreas Fault passing onto the North American Plate.
The Parkfield Cafe, a well known watering hole.
A few miles past Parkfield the uphill grade starts and the pavement disappears.
No guts no glory...
Show cars need not apply!! The road was smooth but rocky.
Nice views once we gain some altitude, this is looking SW.
Made it to the Summit, doubleugly got a rest.
The summit also was the county line and the pavement reappeared for the downhill run into Coalinga.
The wildflowers were in bloom at Digger Pine elevation.
You can barely see the snow capped Sierras in the distance looking east near the summit.
Nice road descending into the valley.
The Ponderosa Ranch
Cool rock formations on the east side.
A mini Morro Rock.
Finally made it to the Madera Fairgrounds and checked in with Matthew who was wondering why it took me 5 hours instead of 2!
It was a really nice drive and a good time of year to tackle this route in the bus. Not sure if I'm going to go that way again anytime soon _________________ Brian O'Kelly
