From todays Portland Press....I don't know the man, but condolences to his family...

New York motorist killed in two-vehicle collision

A 59-year-old man from St. Regis Falls, N.Y., was killed Saturday afternoon in a two-car collision on Farmington Falls Road, police said Sunday.

Police said the man was driving a 1969 Volkswagen van east around 4:50 p.m. when another vehicle driven by Theresa White, 46, of Ashburnham, Mass., turned to cross Farmington Falls Road onto Mason Road, toward Croswell Road.

White, who was driving a 2006 GMC pickup truck, apparently was blinded by the sun as she pulled into the path of the Volkswagen, which struck the truck and went off the road, according to Farmington police.

When police arrived, they found the New York man dead at the scene. White was not injured.

Sometimes other drivers are just clueless and careless at the same time...

One of the resonas I always drive with my headlights on. The one time it save your life, it is worth it.

Any pics? Was the guy wearing a seat belt or belt/shoulder harness combination?

When a CRX pulled out in front of me years ago, the occupants of the Honda and myself were very banged up. Both my bus and her car were totaled. I can't think of what might have happened if it was a pick up instead. My condolences to the family.

I am about 2 hours from where it all happened, but if there is anything I can do to assist the family I would try to do it.

How fast were you going?

What scares me the most is a head-on collision on one of those two lane country roads where the other driver crosses the median and wacks you in the front taking you out.

Remember what happened to Amskeptic a few years ago? Very lucky he walked away from this.

A scary thing, for sure.

I will say that I do feel safer now that the Mythbusters seemed to have proved that being in a head-on collision going 65mph with a car going 65mph is NOT like hitting a wall at 130mph. Oh it still would suck, does suck and has sucked but I was happy to see that test they did.

I was doing 45, chick blew through a red light. T-boned her dead middle. I careened off her and hit a concrete pole. I crawled out through what used to be the windshield. She and her passenger were F-d up.
