Holy hell. I should have Oldbug or Colome consign my '65 that was gifted by VW to the Brundages in Jacksonville back in '64. (I bought it from Jan.) It only has under 12K original miles with dealer AC and all paint and metal is original. I have never seen anyone get prices like these guys can command!! |
Yes...yes you should have me sell your car _________________ Cheers!

Check out the March 2011 issue of Hot VW's in Rich Kimball's column...nice coverage of the 100k Beetle!
Update...Ive got it titled and registered and on the road again and managed to keep the original black and yellow plates on it without issue or YOM status!
Continued cleaning is under way and I plan to display it at some of the upcoming events this season.
Its looking better every time I touch it...the faded look is growing on me I think _________________ Cheers!

I personally love the way a faded and flat patina looks. IMO when coupled with fresh chrome and trim, as well as seals and hardware it looks great. I would take the body off, do a perfect resto on the pan, replace all seals and polish all the trim and hardware, and roll it that way. Whats the point of polishing patina, its like your trying to hide that its old and unique. Its like an antique, people love original, unfinished, unpolished pieces. I vote no polish or repaint, just keep it garage kept and dont drive it in the rain to often. _________________ -1973 Super Beetle DD in need of resto |

I polish my patina just to keep it in that condition.
Does sound goofy but it looks cool when it beads up in the rain.

Bring it to Glendal AZ on Feb 20th show and swap. I bet it would be a real hit with us. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

I am giving it a very light polish just by hand to clean and protect the surface. I dont want it too glossy. Respecting the age and keeping it as it is, but clean. Im not going to replace any parts unless absolutely needed for safety...and any visual parts will be original stuff with matching patina.
Its all about preservation at this point. _________________ Cheers!

The significance of it being the # 100,000 is far more interesting and valuable than any "low miles" "all original" "one owner" "driven my a little old lady, only on Sundays" yada-yada-yada car. A guy can pretty much find those with just a little looking around.
|
..........ARE YOU SERIOUS??? I agree this is a nice find, but a nice unrestored low mile car is far more appealing if you ask me. I say clean it and keep it original! |
OF COURSE I’M SERIOUS! When was the last time you saw a “nice unrestored low mile car” get an article in a major magazine, not to mention all the other attention. This car marks a big milestone for Volkswagen back in the day.
Don’t get me wrong. Original survivors are nice to find, but NONE, regardless of low mileage, one owner, all original, blah, blah, blah, will have the significance of a car like this…ever.
This is literally a 1 in 100,000 car. If you scoured the country until you found 100,000 beetles, you would most certainly find that a fair percentage of those would be “nice unrestored low miles cars”.
BTW, how awesome would that be? Do nothing but travel around the country poking your head in old barns and such looking for old VW’s. _________________ 1960 Sedan. L349 Jade Green. |

They did make over 1 million Beetles in 1966. Is it certain that they didn't celebrate the 200k, 300k etc cars? It's my understanding that the factory often celebrated any occasion they could. I would say it was/is done more to inspire the workers to produce more units per day more than some significant miletone!
One thing I also think is that this car does deserve better treatment. Leaving it original does nothing for me. I don't think the factory will ever ask for any promo pictures or invite it back there again as it is _________________ -Bruce

I'ts not the 100,000 Beetle made that year it's the 100,000 Beetle made at the Emden plant since 1964. I don't see what makes it so historical besides the little number plate. There's nothing distinct about it. For what he want's there's a heck of a lot more Beetles way more desirable and for a lot less. |

You don't think a celebration by the VW workers with a picture documentating the celebration makes it historical? |

So historical that it was loaded with the rest of the cars and sent to the dealer, who then didn't think it was significant enough to keep it on the showroom floor and then sold it to some anyomous owner who didn't think it significant enough to take care of it. I think OLDBUG is in the business of selling cars. It's a neat find and if he can get 100,000 grand for it so be it. It wouldn't get 2 glances from me at a car show. I understand with almost a million cars made a year that anything that separates 1 from them is important to someone, however like I said it's the 100,000 from Emden since 1964 so as a 66 Bug i'ts not special. A picture with the factory workers is neat but doesn't increase the value 10-20 times IMO.
Just ended on Ebay @ 11,100 and didn't meet reserve. |

Like anything else it's only worth what the buyer and seller agree on.
