Just spent the last several days getting things dialed in. I figure after the first tank of fuel is gone I am going to change all fluids and replace all the filters. The transmission seems nice and tight with the only leak is a cheap boot I used is leaking. I noticed one of my case plugs will need sealant and retightening. My car had never had a pass side mirror and both doors had worn pins so I repinned them in preparation for a set of mirrors.

You're pretty much done. That hood is like a piece of artwork.

If you look really close you can see The Scream haha

car drives quite well it does take a bit to get used to the splitcase tranny and going back into first. checked the speedo with the gps and it runs about 2mph off which i can live with. not having a tach and also observing a break in on the motor i havent pushed past 60 which it does no problem. i have daily driven it for the last 2 weeks highway and around town.
i did give the car a easy off bath to remove some of the goop that was brushed on at some point.
funny you brought up the scream as it is a really good description of what is going on. much like modern art people either love it or hate it and the artists intent is merely the reaction.

if i still have it this winter i will do all the repair and placements on the front and rear clips as well as put a new drivers fender on. Also have a few extras like popouts ,eberspacher, three spoke (wrong i know but i love the feel and look) and steering lock to get around to installing. it is nice having a car you dont have to worry about scratching.

I'd like to hear the story behind this VW, where has it been for the past 40 years or so?? How'd you find it?

The story is what I was told by the person I bought it from who had the car for awhile before selling it. Further supported by info I got trying to get the title straight. It was not my barnfind.

Well started monkeying with the oval again. I have had a good oil leak for some time. I will be pulling the motor soon to address it. When I rebuilt te motor I was scared the cam bores might be shot so I used a big pump. The test rig I ran yesterday puts my oil pressure at about 60psi cold. How high should it be?

The Bentley is kinda vague on this topic.
Bone stock I'm at 42psi.
Dude 60 sounds crazy! Where is she at after a decent run, say 10-15mi?
Also what weight oil? This is very relevant with my recent questions (see my build).
I'm running 10W-40 Lucas non-synthetic with High-zinc.

Good to see you back slow.

I just got a test rig on it. Maybe this weekend I will go for a rip on the freeway and see what the gauge says. Kinda glad I'm being forced to mess with this as it gives me a chance to swap the cam to something more interesting.

After several miles finally time to drop the motor back out to fix some of the oil leaks, looks like I might've put too big of an oil pump iin

Made some more progress in getting the motor stripped back down. All of the leaks could be fixed without splitting the case but with the pump downsize and metal covering my case magnets full flow is in order. Also noticed two of my pistons had the top two ring gaps line up during the last few hundred miles

It's been a busy weekend finished a few upgrades on the bottom end including a new pump with full flow filtering. Hopefully I will get the heads back together and on this before next weekend.
