Hey folks. I picked up an oval dash over the weekend complete with all screw terminal switches.
It appears to be agave green which would date it around 56/57 and the ignition switch has a code that is SG194.

Anyone know what year that code would be used? Trying to figure out what year my wall art dash is Cool

Hey thanks.
Yep I would agree as far as I know its definitely an original 4 screw ignition switch. As luck would have it my car already came with the correct ignition switch with the original key. Which is great because it was really incomplete.

I was trying to figure out if anyone had listing of what SG codes were used for what years, etc. so I could date the dash.

I sent a note to Gabriel since folks say he is the man for keys.

That was my next suggestion.. He would be able to let you know what profile of key for you..

The key code is no help in dating your dash panel. That particular key cut was used on VWs from 1954 through 1966.

The speedo will have a date code.

Bruce.. There were different Profiles to designate which years though right? Or am I off on that one.. You know like for example.. My 1954 has a P Profile for a key..

Thanks guys.
Bruce - no speedo on this dash, of course!
Volumex - its an SG code

Since I know its an oval dash that rules out 52, and 58-59
That leaves me with 53-57

I think its agave green so that should rule out 53-55, am I on the right track here?
I spent about 45min wetsanding away the black paint to find the agave in respectable shape, all things considered.

Could it be reed green or pastel green? I know its hard to tell on a pc.

Here's some pics for fun.

After 1500 grit wet-sanding it revealed the original color. Since its wall art I won't re-spray it. Its a perfect way to store spare screw terminal switches.

The P code key is also used for the locking glove box on oval verts.

WW isn't quite right on this list.
Here's what it should be, including splits:

Splits and 53 ovals:
Door and rear lid:
Y--------1946 to 51
G--------1951 to 53

Ignition:
A--------1946 to 51
V #1----1946 to 51
V #2----1946 to 51
V #3----1946 to 51
P--------1952 to 53

1954 Ovals and later: (door, rear lid, ignition, convert front hood)
SG------1954 to 59
SE------1960
SC------1961 to 66
SV------1961 to 66
SU------1961 to 66
K--------1967 to 70
M------ 1971 to 79

From 1961 onwards, locking glove boxes used SC, SU, or SV. I have seen Super Beetle, Vanagon, and Porsche 944 locking glove boxes use an SC blank.
