Finished installing my poptop shocks from Mr. Bombay. I installed them a week ago but the first time I closed the roof, they both shot out the sides! Turns out the bolts to my Yakima rack were too long and needed trimming. I managed to trim them with a sawzall without butchering my tent. Felt pretty good about that! The shocks rock!! Even with a full rocket box and my spare tire on the roof, my seven year old or wife with bad back could easily open and close it unassisted.
I also swapped out my front lighter for a power port I picked up from GW. I was tired of jamming peices of folded paper in to keep my plugs tight. _________________ 89 Syncro Westy - GW 2.5, now with a double knob job

Moved a box of Van Cafe parts from our bedroom where I'd been idly fingering and examining the various bits in my spare time, to the back of the Syncro. Which is sitting on jack stands and slowly getting buried by parts...

Replaced my radiator and my rear heater core with brand new ones. It would have been much easier had the old rear heater not left an icky mess, but it is very clean down there now.
Yay. I am feeling proud of myself! _________________ '85 Syncro Westy |

Last Thursday had a set of Geolander A/T-S 225/70R15's installed in place of the BFG T/A's on the syncro, much quiter ride. Friday installed the VC deluxe LED light kit.
Sat, Sunday and Monday pulled the tranny and swapped out the clutch,PP, TOB and pilot bearing with an LUK unit from VC and drained and refilled the tranny with Swepco 201 reinstalled the drive shaft and did the laser alignment thing. The swepco sure makes the tranny shift smoother and run quiter, also installed new upper ball joints and steering rack bushings and greased all of the C/V's with swepco 101 grease.

Cleaned and rattle-can painted the faded plastic rear louvers with Fusion black satin. Nice effect, minimal effort. _________________ 1986+ Wolfsburg Weekender Pop-Top 2.3 WBX Manual Trans |

Just installed my Olympian Wave 3 propane heater using the gas line previously used for the refrigerator which, I removed a long time ago.
I ran the gas line from beneath the sink, along the bottom of the interior of the cabinet, through a hole I cut with a hole-saw, across the center walk-through area to the Wave 3, which I attached to the battery compartment behind/under the passenger seat. I'll take some pic's tomorrow and put them up.
Lit it up today and it worked flawlessly! _________________ '82 1.9 TD Westy (Tortuga Veloce)

Finished reading 653 pages worth of posts. Head swimming. Keeping an eye on several interesting threads, including this one.
Checking local Craigslist daily for the right Vanagon. Several good candidates currently listed. Want to go look at them, but need to sell Tacoma before I can buy one. Don't want to waste sellers time.
Listed my Tacoma on Craigslist this past weekend, waiting impatiently to sell it.
Vanagon's are dancing through my head... _________________ Tim Potts

How'd you repair it? JB Weld? |
Nope, I put in a brand new viton seal. What a job! the damn seal took like 6 minutes to replace, and 2 hours to get to... Remove alternator, p/s pump, main pulley, passenger side exhaust stuff, t-belt covers, t-belt, t-belt drive pulley, and finally the main seal. _________________ Clark

Decided to tackle and finish cleaning yrs(?) of crudoff the pop top. Used scotch pads and just water to start and really brought the stuff off, down to the color, a round with the buffing compound really cleaned and with a good waxing with a blue 'color-magic' waxing sure looks good now, big smiles.I thought i would need to paint to get into shape. Can't stop now so gave a good wax/buffing to whole van. A full afternoon of work but no better way, back to the list of 'to-do's. |

Awesome! Vanagonitis is pretty much a terminal disease! Start a new thread with some pics, the search is your friend, what you cant find in a search can be answered pretty quickly. _________________ Clark

NICE!
We got our laminate action on this evening - thanks to all the great advice via this forum - and we're oh-so-close to getting this truckfridge in place. We've been working slowly which has been good (precision) and mixed (feel like this has been a month of futzing around). It'll be done this weekend. _________________ Julia
