time for an update,

Bus is running well, this weekend was big. Took thursday and friday off; thursday i drove up the Ocoee river area and clocked about 150 miles, 70ish of those were forest service dirt and gravel. Snapped some pictures, ill post them up. I had forgot how well a bus is suited for those conditions.. up and down the steepest grades it pulls like a tank. The tires were wonderful! I have always been a huge fan of BFG AT's, and have put them on my toyota truck and Fj40, however for the bus the firestone 6.70's seem perfect. they never rubbed even bouncing over rocks, stumps, sticks... good traction.

Saturday was bugapalooza, a great show! Great turnout, then local club did a first class job. I yanked a few pictures from the gallery of my bus, they are below.

still waiting on my rack, and have yet to get the sink mounted... i need to fix the passenger side door lock, find a piece of stationary glass and passenger side windscreen glass... not all that much. I guess its time to log some miles and start working on my double cab...

Very nice bus!

I took my 67 with its pathetic 14" car tires on a forest road outside of Boone, NC the other day and quickly realized that I should go ahead and switch over to tall 15's this summer. Wink

Used to work with the National Wildife Federation in the Smokies. I have very found memories of driving my 62 hardtop deluxe bus on the backroads of Ocoee Big Frog Mountain in particular- almost died from heat exhaustion there!

I drive a late 57 Kombi now- almost done with its restoration.

been driving the crap out of this thing, replaced the single stock carb with single port webbers from CB, they seem to be jetted poorly for my little engine, but its still running like a champ. Just got home from NC, went camping and took the canoe out. Stopped on the way to get a snack and when i returned there was a group of 6 or 7 taking pictures of each other in front of the bus, i got a kick out of that!

I got the rack from a fellow samba member, worked great, nice and strong, and carried the canoe, my friends kayak, and all our wet gear with room for more...

a side note for those of you who like camping; if you don't have a side tent/ awning... round one up. it is one of the best additions to the "camper kit" that i have made and the cost is minimal. Try an rv dealership that sells/ has sold pop-ups... the awning that come on those fits perfect.

still pleased with the tires, and the stock small nut trans. its slow on the highway (as you would expect) but once you hit the back roads it feels like a little rocket. snapped some pictures, enjoy.

Great pics and I love how you are using your bus. Did you make it to CTS? If so I missed seeing you.

slow day so i figure i would post some pictures. I was able to round up two long spoon pop out latches. Installed them yesterday.... I was impresses with how much they changed the amount of airflow through the bus. Also a while back I installed two lights (OG VW) in the engine compartment... they cast a fair amount of light and if bus ever craps out at night i will be glad they are back there.

I think the oil cooler is leaking a bit. Noticed some oil on the top of the engine, came at a good time though... the clutch is slipping under load so either this weekend or next its getting yanked. Can't complain though, for a mystery engine that had not run in at least 4 years ive gotten some miles out of it.

just oil.. it worked well with my Vespa... seems to be working well with the bus also... Its keeping the rust away best i can tell. We have had rain every day for the past few weeks. If nothing less its peace of mind... it last about 2 weeks or so depending on the weather.

Wow, good eye.... No reason, that was all I had so figured it better work. So far so good, no cooling or charging issues that I can tell. Do people run in to problems swapping them around?

as long as the belt lines up-usually the 6 volt sits to far rear ward (rear is rear of bus) to line straight up and down fan belt. i just noticed the interior light installed in engine compartment for fixing in dark places if something fails.

I see, it's not 100% strait but I don't think it off enough to pose a problem. Also those lights are well worth the time if you actually need them.
