looks good, i just dont like the use of the torsion cover deal being used as a bolt point for a mount. Id make something little beefier since your putting different stress on it than when it has a torrsion bar and bushings in it

You have the body off the pan why don't you install air suspension in the front the right way? Air shocks are NOT air suspension.

eric worked for a very well known air ride company for a while, and ive done several installs as well..

air shocks arent air ride due to the fact that they arent designed to be adjustable, they are designed to be a helper to keep a vehicle at a certain height, not to be adjusted consistently ... they are a helper for added load in a truck or car..

they require a higher PSI than you would need in a bag, and there for ride much rougher.. im not goin to say that they cant ride decent, but abag will ride better, perform better, last longer, and have the proper adjustability for a true "air ride" setup..

these are simply not designed to be the only suspension in any part of the car, they are designed to have coil or leaf springs as the actual suspension and load bearing item..

hope that makes sense, im sure eric will chime in... they just arent the right way, only reason it seems people do em on VWs is lack of space for a bag, altho i think there is enough room you just have to be creative and im definetely not talking about a single bag setup, forget that shit... sway is no fun

I have to agree with touchdowntodd on both posts.

Its all very nice work but that bottom mount will bust right off. First ride, maybe even first raise.

And an air shock is not considered a "true" air ride for the reasons he mentioned above. They are more of a support for the other suspension... not for the whole weight of a car. Hence they are a little stiffer and not as free floating as an airbag.

I would also patch up that framehead a bit. You don't want ANYTHING getting in there that isn't supposed to be in there.

Bob, any larger photos? Did you use square tubing to make the mount? Real hard to tell whats going on there, but it looks like the flat steel could bend down without reinforcing it. Maybe weld a piece of 1/4" steel perpendicular to the lower bag bracket to make it more rigid. And a better photo so I can see it better?

Air Shocks were designed to help support heavy / unstable loads, NOT the entire weight of a vehicle. Remember what a shock was designed for, dampening, NOT carrying.

The only reason this kinda works on bugs is cause there is so little weight in the front end of the car. The very high pressure it will take to lift the car is not going to offer a very good ride up front, but then again if your running 145/65's for clearance I suppose ride quality isn't a huge demand anyways?

I know AirKewld has sold a bunch of kits this way and they seem to work ok without snapping the lower shock bolt off of the torsion arm BUT they only reason he sells them is because people buy them.

This has been argued to death on here and it works but it is NOT the right way to add air suspension to a car. This guy appears to be doing the right things with the rear setup so why not do the right things with the front and have a NICE riding reliable suspension setup on all 4 corners?

The axle tube are less that .125" thick. You will tear the mount right off the axle tubes or bend them.

I did something similar in 99', went to chromoly off road tubes and it did the same thing.
