On "Luigi," our October 31, 1956, Euro-spec AMAG Ghia from Switzerland... Took these a couple of days ago, after "test-fitting" (Mrs. Stock Steve really doesn't like the look) my black-painted repro skinny (4.5") 356 wheels, with 155R15 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires--also those spun aluminum brake drum covers (which work nicely with contrasting-color 356 wheels) and chromed plastic lug bolt head covers (for a final bit of extra pop):
(yes, that's a front end nose-bonk, along with many other flaws--and also incorrect "pep boys" side trim, too--but in our defense, that's how we bought him, way back in the mid-1980s...)
For comparison, I have a couple of pictures of these same wheels & tires on our '60 Bug, from a couple of winters ago--here's a sample: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/633762.jpg _________________ Stock Steve

I'm not quite sure what these are, but they seem to have come from Brazil, and they are shiny!
I have seen them on a few other VWs, anyone care to fill me in on what they are? |
I have similar if not identical wheels and don't know the origin? Can anyone shed some light on this style. And more importantly, is there a market for this type as they will not be on my finished ghia. Thanks in advance. |

These are a couple of pictures I took of my mate's '72 Brazilian Fusca:
I'm pretty sure they are stock wheels for that year...I'll check with him. _________________ John.

Just searched pictures I have for Brazilian Ghias too:
Below a '68:
Below a '72 Karmann Ghia TC:
Edit: Confirmed...stock Brazilian. Very common...in Brazil.
He added:
"Up to 67 all the Brasilian KG came out with solid rims. Then, VWoB issued the wide five wheels with 20 slots and used the same domed hub cap as they did pre '67. Early in the 70s they changed the wheels pattern to 4 lug but the 20 slots remained unchanged and they replaced the hub cap using a flattened style. So those wheels are all the same as just seen in my 72." _________________ John.

Thanks for the research and input John. I guess it is safe to say my 68 CV Ghia has Brazilian wheels. I wonder if there is a market for these as I will not be keeping them. |
