Play in lower control arm?

Can there be any play in a lower control arm? I tore into the 86 syncro today to replace a busted shock and noticed that there is play in the LCA bushing. If I grab the end of the arm where the three holes are I can move it back and forth parallel to the ground about 1/2 inch. Is this normal or would it indicate wear?
