Hi,
today I cleaned my CB perf filter on my bus (this one http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=220 ) and found many metal parts inside, deep into the mud at the bottom of the filter:

Despite this the motor runs great , no noise, nothing to notice.

What can that be ? I have an idea but I would like to know what you think before.

Thanks !

For sure it's metal but what kind ? Good question !
I would not say aluminium because of the shape of the small parts but I can't say much more...
The two bigger parts come together:

Yes it's magnetic, I should have checked that before !
It's a T1 engine
The big parts are flat on the top, and also on the bottom, but it's not parallel to the top it makes a small angle...
If one of my lifter was that much damaged I would have noticed it, right ?
It looks like the idea I had is completely wrong, I thought it could come for the distributor drive but the shape does not match.

Ok I have a single port 1600cc T1 almost ready.
Is the metal thick enough in the manifold to drill a hole for plugging the brake assist ?

Yes, either drill and tap for a threaded fitting (don't thread in too much and JB weld around the outside after) or braze in a nipple like VW did.

how did we go from a broken lifter (and possibly damaged cam) to a manifold. I missed something in translation.

His backup motor has no booster fitting on the manifold.

When you drain oil do it into a immaculately clean pan. I use a white plastic bowl from the kitchen. Then carefully inspect the oil for the minute particles in the bottom and also check the oil out in the sunlight for the glistening particles floating in the oil. Big hunks are one thing but the little microscopic sized particles are indications of component wear. Big stuff is indication of failure.

And perform a good service just to assure you get the best bang for your buck. R/R your clutch just to check disc aint stuck/rusted to flywheel or pressure plate. Lube the pilot beaaring, too.

I have a brand new 215mm clutch for this motor and a flywheel too Smile
I will mount the double port cylinder heads from the current motor instead of the single port heads I have left, like that I have nothing to drill or thread for the brake assist.
More news tonight.
