|
|
Hello,
Has anyone ever come across this small dealer item?
I saw one somewhere in a photo and I would love to hear if anyone has seen it or has one, or at best, has one for sale.
It is a small carousel that spins around and displays matchbox size toy VW cars. I imagine it was an item that could sit on a dealers desk for potential customers to look at and the dealer could show the different VW's available. The one I saw featured some of the different Buses of the era, i.e., panels, kombis...etc.
Any help is greatly appreciated. And photos too! _________________ 1968 Westfalia Campmobile

i am sure there was an article on these in volksworld magazine at some point, probably about 10 years ago, you could drop them a line to see if they can tell you which issue it was. They are a lovely item. |

You are probably thinking of the ultra rare Wiking carousel display. It was plastic, blue and white in color. It had ho scale and 1/43rd scale Wiking promo VW buses on two tiers. It also had swatches of the interior colors on the shelves. Originally it was displayed at a VW dealership. It was once owned by Ken and Steve, Then Ed Economy, Then Bill Dierickx. Last time I saw it was when Ed and I took the European buyer to pick it up in Palm Springs. It sold for big $$$$$$$$$. _________________ Do you want fries with that? |

It was an item used by dealerships to showcase to potential buyers the colors & interior combos available at the time for Type 2s. The carousel features ( 8 ) 1:40 scale Wiking models.
Unless you have one, or inspected it in person, it has some very unique features. It is made of wood & plastic. It is motorized to spin. There's also a switch so it is compatible with both US & European voltage.
The carousel measures 15" in diameter and stands about 18" tall (measured at the top of the Chrome metal VW emblem atop the canopy)
Are you looking to buy one? I might be interested in selling my example but it won't be cheap. I date mine to be around 1961 because of the bullet signals & larger taillights on the Buses.

Mine has only a single tier/stage. And the swatches are small round samples between the Buses & the center column. _________________ 1947 Typ 11a
