I hadn't even thought about this until a couple days ago when I went to look at another van for sale.

The owner said it had spent it's entire life in So. Cal, which I expect is a good possibility since there was no rust anywhere.

However, the dash was cracked up so thoroughly that you'd have a hard time finding even 2 square inches without a crack in it.

By contrast, my own dash is without any cracks, even though it's never been protected from the sun with a dash cover, or foil over the windshield.

This has been a lot of years of exposure to the mojave, so what the hell's going on with that other guy's dash?

I'm not so sure it's caused by sun damage.

As I said, my van is unprotected for a stupid number of years here in Vegas without a problem, so unless there's a place that get's more sun than here, there's something else at work.

I wonder if some of the products being sold to help condition the dash actually do the damage?

Levi,

What year is the other van?

I have heard that some 85's have an issue with cracking on the dash, but I cannot substantiate this.

Doing the bedspring polka on the dash will cause the dash to crack---
The sealy slide.

It's the baby oil lube & the vibrations that will bust it up --Every time---
