Consider it an investment. You could become the laminate pimp of the great white north!

I found, on the internet, a Dutch company, selling 80 different veneer wood styles. 80 different paterns: there could be a match in there...

Anyone an idea of the wood / patern name of the SO-42 cabinets veneer..?

I would buy a few sheets to redo my Westy cabinets. I'm in the middle of a full resto and the cabinets are pretty faded in areas.

I have found a place local that stocks the Grand Isle Maple but have not found a close match for the table top. Has anyone else? I can start robbing laminate off other tables but was hoping to find new sheets.

Just an FYI for those looking.

He has two sizes, it's expensive, claims limited quantity and exact repro.

And since he is in the UK it will be more expensive to ship than the material costs!

Sad but true. I paid 2 times the sale price on a very lightweight vintage racing hard top from the UK. But to me it was priceless.

I see tall closet cabinets reasonably priced, keep looking.

Minor thread jack, but still on topic (westy Formica).

I'm having Formica make a custom pattern after the westy greyish black linen on white background table Formica. After multiple sample revision iterations... it should be looking good on the next sample. Hopefully it'll be acceptable for final approval.

Here's a pic of one of the last samples. This sample was too 'green' on the linen color & had undesirable convergence on the linen thread. Once done, I might make continuous small batches, or at least have extra available.

That looks really close. Keep us in the loop on the progress.

Yeah, easy e. I'd be down for enough to make a top for the ice box and spice rack. I have an extra large table, but I don't wanna cut it into bits if I don't have to. Someone else could use it.

I just got a trio of samples back from Formica. Two were way too light & off color. One might be ok... now gotta find my original piece & post up a comparison pic.
Hopefully find it tonight.

Repro on left & original on right.
Color is a tad off & pattern is slightly muddled when compared to original.
Looks pretty good though. Getting any better isn't guaranteed & would cost a fair amount more for another design effort.

Looks damn good to me. Cool We are dealing with laminate that is ~50 yrs old. That repro looks no different than my OG SO42 maple vs the new stuff.

I wasn't happy with the sample runs.

To get it right, a full sheet of pattern would have to be made (PITA).

Someone contacted me about them using a program/software to make it happen.
I'll get back on it... thx for the nudge.

Well, I got back on the Formica horse again...
Hopefully I'll have another sample to share again in the next few weeks.... and it'll look good.

If it doesn't look good... there's a few options:
1) accept however it looks
2) abandon effort
3) pool $ to get a graphic designer to come up with a 4'x8' or 4'x10' digital design of the 'pencil point' on paper.... master the "linen" look of the original Formica.
