Im putting together a 67 transmission ,axles, and need to know if there is an order in which the 2 spacers go onto the differential. 1 is thick and 1 is thin. Also the thick spacer has a split in it. Is it supposed too? Thanks for the help |

The thin one goes on first and the thick on top of that one. However, they only go there if that is where they were and you didn't change anything regarding the pinion or crown. The exact thickness determines the backlash and must be set-up with special tools and pre-loads. The split is not supposed to be there as far as I know. |

A transaxle builder like Rancho should be able to set you up. I'd think there'd be someone nearer to you. |

The thick one should have a bevel on the inside. It goes on first with the bevel towards the C/L of the diff. The thin one after that then the brg.
The split is normal. |

Sheesh. I thought we were talking against the bearing: part 23 and 24 with 24 being the thin one. So it's split, huh. Maybe Everett can delete my posts.

The axle tubes are the same. The RGB ends are L & R sided. The tab for the flex liine to solid line connector face towards the nosecone or front of the vehicle. If no tab the boss for the shock faces forward.
Note: There may be a different thickness of shims on either side of the diff. Often the ring gear side has a heavier combination if shims for preload. |

It is 23 & 24. The pic doesn't show the split in the thicker shim. |

When reinstalling the axle, Do I use a rubber gasket AND paper shims for the retainer plate? The rubber gasket part # 111-501-139. I cant seem to find this part!! |

The two piece retainers use the rubber o-ring. If you see spot welds holding the upper boot ring to the lower flange then you have two piece retainers. |

The cover plates with the o-ring look like a flying saucer and are late '67. For the paper gasket adjustment: put on 3 dry, tighten, try to let the swing arm fall. It should just fall slow under it's own weight but not just drop. Tear out a gasket one at a time till it's right. |

I am setting the axle retainer plate shims and wanted to know , Is it ok to have 3 gaskets on one side and 2 on another? They seem to drop by their own weight. Just trying to make certain, Thanks all |
