Thinking about getting these for my 79' bus. Any thoughts as to if they will work or if they would require much modifications?

Those wheels were imported and sold by Jeff Schwaia. I don't believe he's doing that anymore - he's concentrating on his business as a registered vehicle importer, Autostadt West. He's one of the good guys! Wink

sometimes I run across the same wheels with slightly different ET's

I attribute this to different amounts of material machined off the mounting surface of the same wheel casting.

so, my question is, if one was going to have the bolt face machined off to change ET from 28 to 30 on a 17x8 wheel...what would be the minimal acceptable material thickness for the lug to hang on to on an aluminum rim ?...if you get me.

on a 17x8 wheel with an ET of 28, one would have just a little too much poke I think. if the best ET is 30...maybe 28 isn't too bad. I have run ET 32 with a about 3/16"" spacer, which is pretty close to 4mm.

You are correct that two wheels that otherwise are the same yet have differing offsets have their wheel mounting points machined differently to achieve that different offset. However, nearly every wheel also has the lug seats machined to match the particular offset so that the wheel thickness through the lug hole is uniform throughout their wheel line, regardless of the offset. This means that most often, there isn't much material that can be machined off of the backside.

A good rule of thumb, is that you want a cast wheel to be at least 8-10mm thick (depending on the quality of the wheels) as measured through the lug hole from the base/bottom of the lug seat area down to the wheel/hub mounting face, and a forged wheel to be 4-5mm thick through this same area.

Sometimes 2mm makes all the difference in the world, either visually, fitment wise, or both. But other times, a 2mm difference is just being picky.

Hi Loogy,

I would like to fit Porsche 928 flat dish wheels 16 inch in my syncro.
My car is a standard 14 inch.
To fit different width wheels is a big no no at a syncro correct ?
And if I put same size tyres the outer diameter differnce it will be greater than the 2mm that is allowed ?
As I love to have 7s in front and 8s at the rear.
So if I am correct 7s all around.
What adapters do I need and can I use Porsche factory alloy lugnuts ?

Any idea about centerbore/lug width/lug seats?

And also, with an ET of 37, will 7mm front and 12mm rear do it for spacers?

The tires alone are making me think these are a good deal.
