|
|
The needle is always in the middle
About once a week the red led light will blink for a few seconds, then go off. But the temp needle did not move up.
When it blinks, I have pulled over right away and check the level in the pressurized tank and it is full with no air in it.
Either its a bad connection, a bad two prong sensor or a bubble in the cooling system?
I have bled the cooling system a long time ago and dont think it is air trapped in the system.
I have replaced the two prong sensor in the pressurized expansion tank.
I have check the temp sensor, grounded the wire and the temp needle raises up in temp and led light blinks. Works like it should.
I am thinking bad connection between the plug and the two prong sensor.
What should I do next? Thanks. |

Clean the sensor pins that are in the tank.
Replace the little connecotors in the cable to the sender.
Those are the two usual suspects.
Past that, you gonna have to read this from the FAQ:
From section 90 in the Coolant Temperature Gauge subsection:

PS: It seems to always help to look into the FAQ first, hint, hint.... _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

FWIW - I had one that would intermittently blink that I ultimately traced to a spot where the harness was pinched and the wire was damaged and making intermittent contact. |

I found something somewhere that said the light will also blink if the coolant mixture was off. Wish I could remember where I found that so I could give you the link. My van blinks sometimes and the needle stays in the middle. I haven't gotten around to trying to fix it yet. |

That is where my problem occurred. The female connector was broken on the inside. I got a replacement from Kyle. The same style connector is also used for the brake/clutch fluid reservoir.

I had a similar issue caused by a bad voltage regulator on the dash. good write up about this fix on http://www.westfalia.org/
PS - it fixed my gas gauge readings as well. _________________ 83.5 Westy with Subaru 2.5, 4 spd manual, center seat, COLD A/C on 134a!, Winter camp heated with an Espar B4 gasoline furnace
