This 59 23 window walkthru, was restored way way back in 1988/89, to a level very few are able to achieve today. I was just getting my feet wet at this point so to experience the craftsmanship that went into this bus as well as participate in the restoration has had a lasting impression.

I would love to find out where this bus is today. Laughing

It was this article on Dan Perry's early '59, 23 walk-thru that encouraged me to get one of my own, after I seen that bus, I just had to have one. I agree with you, it would be nice to know where this one is now.

On your first post you mentioned that you will be posting pictures of your bus.......let's see it. Laughing

Also, are you going to account for every 23 window walkthru dead or alive? I have many hard copy pictures of 23 window walkthrus that I have photographed over the past 20 plus years of collecting and restoring.

Here is an old picture of it, still in storage, the PO took it apart, stripped it and let it get surface rust, before I picked it up and put it in storage. I have a substantial list of NOS parts set aside for it when it gets restored ( even NOS glass, such as all skylights, both corner windows, rear hatch, etc.)

I would like to account for all, but, if known, it would be nice to list if the bus still exist or RTE

This 63 23 window walkthru was restored in 1998. I do not have records of the M-codes or build date.
The last information I heard this one now resides in Germany.

This bus was at several SOTO shows back in the day, shows in Colorado and driven alot. However, no one paid much attention to it because of the shabby 70's paint job. I met the previous owner at one of the Deer Park SOTO meets, he was curious about the strange paint code that no one could translate....this was in the late 80's early 90's. We kept in contact, eventually he called saying that there was a possible buyer for his bus, but he didn't feel comfortable with the deal. By the end of the conversation, we made an agreement.

So what did that strange paint code indicate......single color dove blue Shocked Very Happy

Just last week I found NOS blue sunroof material for it Laughing
Now I can restore it Exclamation

August 1962

Damn Doug you're the 23 man! Laughing i cant wait to see this in single tone,it should look really nice!

As far as I know Bob still owns it.

The walk-thru and extra doors were added later though... by the VW factory so still super awesome.

Picked one up locally, someone else on here was looking at it as well. I will post some pictures soon but here is the m-code plate. Sorry if the photo's are too big, I am still getting used to using forums...

It isnt in that bad of shape really. Someone at some point decided to weld a steel panel over the sunroof opening but it looks like it will come off fairly easily. The cargo floor is rusted pretty bad but the pans underneath look ok.

I guess you guys missed this one.

Original per M-code all dove blue, 58/59 cross over bus.

Plus I own an early 63 23 walkthru, original per m-code all dove.

Dove blue 23's are totally played out. Cool Laughing

As for the question posed......if the 55 is a wolfsburg built 23, there is no way I'd consider anything but original sealing wax/chesnut brown combination.....but it's your bus and your $$$. Rolling Eyes

I got to drive that beast (on loan from BBT Bob) around northern Europe during the last H-O and EBI events in 2013 for two weeks, what a blast we had with that old Deluxe cruising along in the slow lane of the Autobahns! Great old girl, that Deluxe!

A shot of us and the Deluxe in the H-O show...

That Bus has some very unique factory mods... Thanks again to Bob for putting us into his "baby" for our VW holiday adventures!
